a nice rule is every 20min two sips of water. i personally do every 30min and two sips/gulps of water for long runs (10miles). its a nice way to count down the long run.

I would have been okay if I hadn't taken the gel...I've never craved water so badly. Won't make that mistake again. haha.

what the heck do guys do with your water when you run? I hate stopping and for sure dont want to carry anything with me, so i just go without water, even on runs 15+ miles. I will carry a gel when i plan on running like over an hour and a half, but then alot of times i end up not using it.

+1. I would peruse gels and water in a race because it's free or in a REALLY long run (a half or longer) because it seems necessary, but two sips of water every 20 minutes? Damn.

I use one of the bottles that attach to your hand. You have to just train yourself to carry it. Some also use the belts. Mine has a pocket for gel, Im going to try S! caps, they are compact!

I'd run naked if it were legal. I don't know how you guys run with bottles strapped to your hands and salt tablets in your pockets and stuff. Isn't that incredibly bothersome?

At first I was hesitant to run with a water bottle, tried running with a belt that I hated , but then I found this bottle from Nathan that I rather like for mid length runs (10-15 miles) and this for longer runs (15+) miles.

I also carry a GU or 2 with me for during the run as well. After a couple of runs you don't even realize you're carrrying water/ GU.

i plan my runs in a loop where i have to loop around at least twice. from there i find a place where i can stash my bottle, under my car (if im at a park), behind a gravestone, tied to a tree branch ect. I make sure its a cheapo plastic 1liter bottle (like a arrowhead or poland spring).

even in central park no one will steal the water, and the park guys will know its a runner's bottle an leave it be.

Lately, pretty well every run comes by my house every few miles, so I'm always able to pop in. Even when I go somewhere, I try to route myself to be near the car every so often.

That said, I only consider gels for anything 12 miles and up.

On long runs (over 12 miles) or when it is hot out, I use a Nathan belt with an 18 ounce water bottle. I take honey stinger gels and one salt stick every 8 miles. I'm going to give one of those handhelds a try.

Last night: 3.40 mile interval run.
