20.5 miles of mostly gravel on my cyclocross bike. I got a flat (thorn to the front tire) about three miles from home. I had two road tubes and a mountain bike tube with me. I guess I need to check the contents of my Camelbak more often. I did have a patch kit with me.

I haven't run since last Thursday but got back out there this morning for 8.5 miles, mostly easy but with three 8 minute "tempo" segments around 7:00/mile pace. It had been hot and humid here the past couple days and we had some heavy rain come through yesterday evening that just seemed to make this morning even more humid. The temperature was only about 72º at the start of the run but it felt like I was running through a steam room.

Over the weekend, my wife and I took our daughters down to Hocking Hills State Park just outside of Columbus, Ohio. I didn't get any running in but we did a lot of hiking (though I only remembered to turn on Strava for two short hikes so I guess the rest never happened... ;) ). We probably did 6 or 7 miles each day with our 6 and nearly-12-year-old girls. They were so in awe of the landscape and the rock formations that I don't think I heard them complain about the hiking even once!

I don’t think the trails really lend themselves to running (though there is one trail that is about 8 miles and connects to another 5+ mile loop that both appear to be a bit wider and less busy) but I’m already planning a day trip back down by myself to go hike some of those longer trails.

"Working from home"
Not saying I didn't consider that, but I've got hours to burn AND there's no cell service along most of the trail out there. At least when I go for a random long walk or run in the middle of the "workday" when I am working from home, I'm never really out of cell range and can answer calls or emails on the fly if I really need to.

Yesterday's ride included a climb which averages 9% but has some 17% ramps in it. I need more power and lower gears for that bullshit! I was sub-50 rpm in my lowest gear for extended stretches.

I am still recovering from the Rona, which was really terrible for two days, and genuinely unpleasant the rest of the time. I am vaccinated with two boosters, the most recent of which was about a month prior to my infection. I'm through the worst of it and hopefully near enough to getting back to normal. Its the headache that persists, really, and I cant see myself getting back to running or going to the gym until next week at the earliest.

I have played golf a couple times this week and it was pretty exhausting, despite taking a cart instead of my usual walk. I have a 3 day tournament next week that I hope I am feeling recovered for, but who knows at this point. Fingers crossed.

11 hot, sticky, sweaty, slow miles this morning.

I knew it was going to be muggy out there and I was planning to go for a long-ish run so I decided to weigh myself before and after. I lost 8.2 pounds on the run through sweat. It was sweaty enough that towards the end of the run I had to keep pulling my shorts up because the added weight from all the sweat in them was pulling them down.

I get that if I don’t tight certain pairs of shorts.

8.3 miles today near my parents home. My grandmother passed this week and lack of sleep has kept me from running.

Also congrats to @Dusty Heaters who had his kiddo recently. Hope the weight training has paid off carrying diapers and dirty laundry.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother @jbarwick. Congratulations @Dusty Heaters!

Another big group ride riding sweeper, but this time in the hills and a tighter grouping of abilities. 30 miles, 3,200 ft

25 miles of mixed terrain miles on the cx bike yesterday. I watched bits of the Ironman 70.3 race, and jumped on the course for a few miles of harder effort (cruising past people riding $10,000 tri bikes is fun on a steel bike with knobby tires).
