How many miles did you run today?

    i dont know, man, but the jarring i guess from the running is chronically hurting my knees. i cannot even do it anymore. my heart, lungs, and body is saying "GO!" but my knees are screaming, "STOP!!!!"

    i am ending up doing stairmaster for an hour now every day. the stairmaster does not hurt my knees at all.

    on the outer side of my knee and i believe where the joints meet right under the patella. it only hurts when i walk on a slight down hill slope , going down stairs,

    or when jogging running.

    Shoe, before you run again, I'd suggest you get your shoes checked out. There are lots of variables that can affect your knees, and two that come to mind include pronation and arches. If either one is mis-matched your knees will suffer. Either visit a good running store or a pedorthist / podiatrist (preferably one who runs). I did this and it was some of the smartest money I ever spent.

    today, another few feet.... [​IMG] +1 on the shoes.... the shoes I'm wearing (Nimbus 10) are like running (walking) on clouds!

    About 5km again -- very hot, but it's getting easier with repetition.

    5K. Back home, so usual 2x1 miles at 6 min pace, and then sprints at faster pace. Bodyweight (dips, pullups, some wierd martial arts pushup type of things) and weights. Stretched. Went to faculty meeting.

    Patellar tendinitis caused by improper patellar tracking, most likely. Happens a lot.

    Take some anti-inflammatories (I like Aleve) and rest a bit. Maybe do some squats.

    When the pain goes away, make sure to do some squats (or at least leg extensions, but those have fewer benefits).

    And IME rest means lay off the running for a while shoe dude... even a couple of weeks or more if that's what it takes to stop hurting. You'll lose some conditioning, but it beats the hell out aggravating it into a more serious injury.

    12mi on treadmill with thunderstorms in forecast. I read an article today about someone who died from being struck by lightening while running on the beach. Very sad.

    I am a gigantic fan of avoiding running. The only plus to running IMO is the fact that it's cheap and easy - all you need is a pair of shoes and you're good to go. Can be done anywhere and doesn't require any equipment. Low impact or zero impact is the way to go IMO. Things like riding a bike, swimming, ellipticals, etc. The stress, strain and wear on your joints from pounding the pavement just have you end up with a lot of joint degeneration over time and a much higher risk of osteoarthritis later on. I've seen this quite often in the hospital/clinic and I'm sure the Sports Med docs and Orthopedists see it a whole lot more. Great for fitness perhaps but there are other ways to stay fit that are a lot less taxing on one's body. If your knees are hurting, I'd say that's a sign your body's telling you to stop or, at the very least, lay off of it for a while. Listen to your body or pay the price.

    How old are you? I think that "around 20 minutes" is pretty much the cap for most guys in decent shape who are not training specifically to get a faster 5 or 10 K. I have, during different times, been able to run in the 18:30s consistently, and have brought it down below 6 minutes miles even, but I find that, if I run an random 5 K road race, without having done anything particular special in preparation, that I'll clock in at about 19:30.

    I'm 20, so yeah I doubt I'll see much more improvement since I'm not training for anything in particular. I was thinking of gearing up for some runs in the fall, but I'll be leaving the country in a couple months.

    Another 5k after the usual weights...a couple minutes slower because capoeria makes your legs its bitch, apparently.

    Last night - 12 miles in 1'17'45 (same distance as the night before and in the exact same time, strangely). I went right after it had stormed pretty hard and most of the time i could see that it was really storming in the distance and lightning was lighting up the sky miles away. I kept thinking more storms would pass over me, but it didnt happen. As i finished up it started raining again, but only lightly.
    Most of the time i really enjoy running in the rain, it feels really good sometimes. I never start running when its raining too hard, but if its really starts storming hard while i'm running i generally dont mind. of course the lightning thing is scary though.

    today ran 8.3 in 51'30.
