How many miles did you run today?

10 miles at 6:58/mile pace today. No wife or kids to run with so I was able to open it up a bit. Felt much more natural than my slower paced long runs.
As usual, I am impressed. I know I'm a bit older, but that would be at the upper end of tempo pace for that distance for me, even if I could actually run tempo for that distance at the moment - or pretty much my half-marathon race pace. What would you do for this distance if you were actually racing?

Thanks! In terms of racing, marathon pace is in the 6:30s. Half marathon PR is around 6:07/mile pace (last February). 5k would be in the mid 5’s most likely.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that everything proceeds well and that Boston will be a go. They limited field size to 20k. And entry opens on 4/20. I will be hoping I can still get in with the smaller field size. Given my time I am thinking I still have a good chance.

A bit more than 10 miles this morning with about 7 of them at the track. I was doing 5x through a progression of:

100m
100m
200m
200m
400m
400m
200m
100m
rest

I had about 15 - 20 seconds of walking rest between each interval. Even with the walking rests and the roughly minute rest at the end of each series I managed to set PRs for 10k (44:43), 15k (1:09:26) and 10 miles (1:15:38). Today's 10k was more than a minute faster than my previous 10k that I set back around the end of October and my 10 mile time was almost 3 minutes faster than what I ran on February 28.

First stroller run in a few months with the daughter on Saturday, 3.5 miles to the park. Woof it’s getting hard now that she’s older hahaha. This is probably going to be the last year we’ll be able to do this so I’m really going to try to enjoy them while I can.

Rest day Sunday and 5 easy miles last night since legs were still a bit fatigued. 8:45 pace.

8.4 miles yesterday on the greenway. Still some sections with wet, sticky mud and other places that are covered in dirt after the path was flooded a week ago.

Getting into the 80s here but hopefully nothing hotter for another month so we have time to enjoy this!

That’s a solid effort. Your 10k time is five seconds off mine, which I did in a 10k race way back in 2006).

My Garmin estimates that I should be able to run a 10k in 00:38:55. If I can find a 10k that's 100% downhill I might actually be able to make that a reality.

I ran 39:42 in a 10k race in 2012 (the only race that I've come close to winning). I only started running more seriously and doing events in 2010, when I was 37 / 38. According to the magic training tables, I should be able to beat that now with my training paces and mileage, but I'm still going to aim a bit lower (41:00) for my 10k TT coming up at the end of next week. Even that might be a bit of stretch in reality.

3.1 trail miles, less than 20 hours after getting the first dose of Pfizer’s vaccine. I felt a touch tired, but fine otherwise. I took it fairly easy (about 9:15/mile pace). Temps int the upper 50s. Rain is in the forecast for this afternoon.

The only time I ever came close to winning a race was 6 or 7 years ago. A Catholic middle school a block from my house was hosting a 5k. It was their first time hosting it and they did not really advertise beyond putting up some yard signs around the neighborhood. I signed up because I saw that the route was going to go right past my house and on the morning of the race it looked like there were maybe 20 adults and 60 kids between the ages of 11 and 15. When the starting gun went off I took off and smoked those kids!

My wife and daughter were standing outside when I ran past our house (around 0.3 miles in) and my wife later told me she thought it was just me and a couple other people because the little kids didn't turn the corner towards our house for another minute or so.

At the end I came in 2nd place by about 30 seconds.

I signed up again the following year expecting it to be largely the same but they must have done a lot more advertising because now there were easily 200+ adults. I didn't place so highly that year!

My XC / hill repeat loops again today. I decided not to increase the distance since I've got fairly immediate 'race' goals, and stuck with the 6 laps (8.4km or 5 1/4 miles in total). I also decided to run evenly and try to keep to my target pace (4:30/km or 7:15/mile). And that's exactly what I did in terms of average pace, but also my laps were all within 2 seconds either side of 6:18. Conscious of how I have felt recently, afterwards I did double the usual amount of stretching to help prevent injury.

I have been glutinous today and have had 4 pieces of carrot cake. I decided to try the “hardest ride of the week” as voted on by Peloton members which was a 20min “metal” ride. That was tough...I need to change my toughness scale if that was a 9/10 and my normal 8.2/10 don’t feel nearly as tough. Maybe a logarithmic scale?

Tomorrow will be an afternoon run to beat the storms
