I achieved a longtime goal and rode
to the top of our local “mountain”, Mount San Bruno, and I chose a perfect day for it. From my house it’s 8 miles and about 1,200’ of elevation gain, mostly in the last 4 miles.

I still had some oomph so I headed out to the coast before turning for home, for a total of just about 30 miles.

That's a good climb. The last time I did it, I got a pinch flat and dinged my rim when I hit a deep transverse crack on the descent, so I'm not on speaking terms with it right now. :)

Yeah the pavement sucks once you’re on Radio Road, especially the first 1/4 mile after the parking lot. Not sure I need to do that section again. The multi-use path from Crocker was a nice discovery though, I could see taking that and then dropping down to Colma via Guadalupe and up to Skyline.

Well... I got back home from the hospital to find that my son starting to have severe pains in his abdomen, vomiting, chills - all the signs of appendicitis. So come the evening, we were back in town again, at the other hospital ER. He's had blood tests and scans and he's being kept in over night as he may have to have his appendix out tomorrow. My wife was particularly on this as her parents failed to get her to the ER in time when she was the same age, and her appendix ruptured and she ended up being in hospital for 2 weeks following post-operative complications.

I'm now grabbing a few hours sleep in a hotel nearby because they only allow one person to acccompany each patient. It's been quite a weekend...

1 hour on the trainer last night. The air quality was bad during the kids nap, but improved later, so we all went for 1.5 mile walk (baby’s first walk!).

This might seem like a weird question to ask, or maybe not: has anyone here had any issues with UTIs or prostrate problems? Looks like I am going to have to head into the urgent care clinic tomorrow ASAP because of a constant need to pee and blood or, increasingly, bloody lumps in my urine. Suddenly came on over the last couple of days (and no, for one major reason, it is completely impossible for this to be an STD, in case anyone might be thinking that). This might help explain my recent lack of zip... in the meantime, I'll be in the bathroom.

Rough week man, sorry to hear about it. Hope you and your son get better soon.

Sorry to hear about your families medical worries @FlyingMonkey and hope you’re all on the mend.

Did a 35 minute run today including 15 mins tempo (6:53 average pace) in the middle. Annoyingly, I can feel a cold coming on (6 yr old daughter has been back at school a couple of weeks so quite expected) so will have to take it easy for a couple of days as I normally prefer not to run with a head cold, though I know some people are OK with that.

I just starting running 3 or 4 times a week for the last two weeks. I only run two miles now, because it takes me like 22 minutes to complete. The first half is uphill, and the second half is downhill. It’s usually 95 degrees or more. I want to cut it down to 10 minutes a mile, and then add on another mile. I’ll keep ramping things up until I’m doing like 25 miles a week.

Woke up at 2a last night. At 4a got up and did 30 minutes on the elliptical then chest and shoulders. Bah.

If I can shake my hairy arse properly tomorrow morning I'll do a 10 mile ride from the casa with grades up to 6% and 1200 feet of elevation.

9.2 miles this morning:

A mile+ slow to the track; ten 1.00 km intervals a bit faster than my 10k pace (each followed by 10 dips, 10 crunches, 10 leg lifts, 10 squats, 10 push-ups) and then another mile+ home.

Could not shake my butt out of bed early enough. I have a 12 hour day scheduled at work and the old body just was not willing. :(
