really wish I hadn’t sold my old Bianchi fixie (San Jose) before we moved.
I love those Bianchi SS / fixies. I have a crappy old steel SS which still has slighly bent forks from when I crashed it hard once... and I've often thought it would be nice to have a Bianchi to replace it.

7 miles Friday and 8.5 Saturday then the Peloton yesterday followed by some weights. I sold my road bike a few years back and don't see myself getting back into it. I enjoy the class aspect of the Peloton and that I can limit total workout time to an hour while going for a group ride which could take multiple hours.

That and Covid. I don't wear a mask while running in the neighborhood...don't think I need to as I don't pass many people and when I do I run on the opposite side of the road.

Today’s view... My wife is back to work today, so I’m doing a trainer ride while the kids nap.

Cleaned and tuned a couple of my bikes today (speed machine and steel workhorse) and then went out for a ride with my wife and son. I might do a slow recovery run tomorrow but I might leave it one more day.

Just a quick ride this evening with the wife, kids, and dogs. I might have to start running at night to avoid other people.

I was really into fixies for a few years. Here's a town bike I built on an 80's Schwinn Le Tour frame and bunch of stuff I had laying around. I tried to hit that Bianchi color. If you've ever ridden in Santa Cruz you know why I put Mayfacs on the front

I haven't been posting here much over the past few months but the running continues - 7.5 miles this morning, 9.3 miles yesterday...

I've been working from home for the past few weeks and the weather is finally starting to not be miserable in the mornings so I've had more time and more motivation to get out and run.

^Dusty is right about the trails being crazy right now. I decided to hit up a local rails-to-trails trail one day last week and I thought that since it was early in the morning it wouldn't be too busy. Nope. It was relatively packed well before 6:30 a.m. I only ended up staying on the trail for less than a mile and turned off at the first opportunity. People liked to walk or run right down the middle of the trails and refused to move aside for people to pass while keeping any sort of distance from others. I haven't bothered with the trails again since then.

It’s honestly a madhouse in my neck of the woods all hours of the day/night. We have two major problems and a weird sub-problem:

1. A massive amount of walkers who enjoy walking abreast on the sidewalk forcing anyone running into the street for an exhilarating real life game of Frogger.

2. A surge of ‘new runners’ who feel the need to run max-effort / out of control every day. (I actually witnessed a woman who was so maxed out she ran into a guy pushing a stroller.)

2a: Cyclists riding on the sidewalk...what in the fuck?

I use an app called NextDoor, which is a neighborhood events/alerts/news based form of social media to stay informed locally. The groups described above vehemently defend their position and attack one another. That part is quite comical amidst a situation that universally sucks.

NextDoor is the worst thing to happen to acting neighborly to one’s neighbors.

People need to understand that the right of way standard is cyclists yield to pedestrian who yield to equestrians. That does not mean, however, that you don’t let people by when you are able. I see a lot of this crap around here, and it’s definitely worse now with the influx of gym rats using the trails in their spotless shoes and matching outfits.

I check out NextDoor once every couple of days or so, usually for some much needed comic relief. There have been more than a few threads on there reminding walkers or runners to keep their distance and which sides of the street they should be on if there are no sidewalks or trails.

My personal favorite was a roughly 2,000 word post from some lady frustrated with the group of four women who walk down their street all abreast of each other but keeping probably 6+ feet between each of them so no cars or other walkers can pass without having to step off into a ditch and then they got snooty with her (the poster) because she told them to walk single file or something.

The post had probably 60 replies (some nearly as long as the original post) in an afternoon and towards the end it devolved into people complaining that their housekeepers aren't wearing PPE, why isn't the local bagel shop open for carryout, and is anybody delivering annuals for flower beds.

Y’know what, you should probably run in the street regardless. I’ve gradually been increasing the distance I put between myself and others. I’m completely avoiding parks at this point, after getting yelled at for asking someone not to block a pathway by jumping rope.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
