Of course she was white, it's an adaptation of the Marguerite Duras autobiographical novel of the same name (L'amant aka The Lover). Excellent book btw.

FWIW, I should note that I know she's not African-American in the ethnic sense, but I find it amusing that she is African-American literally but not ethnically.

Yeah, I have several friends from South Africa, and they're all white.

I'm white, my girlfriend is hispanic (by your terminology, she prefers South American.) I tend to enjoy non-white girls more than white girls. Not sure there is any specific reason, maybe I am just open to a wider variety of looks in non-white girls than white girls.

We've talked about the fact that we're different races before once. We'd probably been going out for at least half a year by this point, and it was the first time we really noticed! Being different races hasn't been any point of contention at all. She thinks it's cute that we look different... hehe.

Technically, hispanic does not necessarily mean non-white.
