I think that any gorge above the collarbone is probably a bit extreme. The skinny lapels don't do it for me, but they look great on GetSmart and that is what matters. I haven't seen them look good on anybody else. Most people don't have the build or the style for them.

I find this to be my approach as well. The difference between "style" and "fashion" is that the former is unique and personal to the individual, and should remain relatively constant over time. Fashion, on the other hand, is ever changing -- with each season -- and is the realm populated with celebrity designers and designers du jour. If you develop a style and avoid the designer scene, your choices should have great staying power, even if your wardrobe (as a living and breathing thing) may need an injection of freshness every now and again.

I try to keep an eye on the latest trends, and incoroporate certain details in my own wardrobe. It would be nice if my suits last for 2 or 3 decades, but that is not one of my main priorities when choosing a style.

To be fair, some classics do start out as trends and withstood the test of time and fashion. Then there are some people who recycle old trends and have their publicists call it the "next big thing" or something and proclaim themselves as genius.
