How high should a cummerbund sit?

Just curious. I wore mine to a black tie event recently and it sat about half way between the bottom stud and the regular button beneath it. But, when I took the jacket off (gasp!), it looked a bit high. Should it be just above the first 'normal' button?

Thanks

It needs to be high enough to cover the waistband of the trousers. That is all. The ensemble is not designed to look good with the jacket off.

If your conversation is not amusing, right around the mouth.

Showing 3 studs and covering the waistband.
