How has the "ocean wash" worked out for everyone?

I live in a beach town so it would only be a 5 minute ride for me to jump in the ocean, but it seems like a weird way to wash jeans. How have they worked out in the past?

I've seen pictures of it on superfuture i think. They don't look any different to me. Any difference is probably due to wear, and not to the wash method. I've heard they stink to high heaven though if you don't basically wash them afterwards. Doesn't seem like dipping them in fresh water would be enough.

I would imagine you would. I have a pair of jeans (old beaters) that got completely soaked while storm-watching along the ocean. Currently, they've sat in the laundry room for about two weeks (I haven't yet washed them). They don't look different than normal and quick smell test doesn't reveal a vile smell, but I can be certain that they aren't clean. It would seem if you are going wet the jeans, you might as well get a cleaning in.

you're supposed to take em to the ocean and rub sand on em. then take them inside to rinse with freshwater. that part is key. the big problem when i tried it was that i did it in th gulf of thailand and there was no AC and the humidity really marsupials drying. so they ended up smelling like ****, and had to wash them anyways

Never thought I'd see a "Poseidon's method to distressing denim!" thread on SF.

Why would it not be BS? What the hell would it do differently than a regular soak? What happened to the above-average intelligence of Style Forum as a whole?

If you really want to try it, get some sea salt and dissolve it in your bathtub before you soak your jeans. Voila: you've just wasted some sea salt.

i actually hoping it was the pollution in the water off the jersey shore that would do something, not the plankton.....

I think there is a special species of plankton that will work. they are called genus intelligenusplanktanus. They will only eat denim from true religion and diesel......

something about the taste....

jersey shore is a mix of bleach and floating HIV. so soak at your own risk

You can get some killer fades if you're wearing your jeans in the ocean and a barracuda bites your leg. The only tricky part is getting it to bite your other leg so that you get a balanced face. No one wants to walk around with a barracuda fade on only one pant leg. I recommend rubbing beef blood on both sides before entering the water.
