Is it only me or is there less activity on this site since the economic crisis hit. From WAYWRN to FS, there are less threads and most of the opened threads go down with no replies...

Prices have dramatically dropped on B & S in the last 5 months. Perhaps as much as 40%.

The desired size items (jackets in size 38-42) still move fast.

I do notice a lack of high-quality stuff, and lots of really crappy stuff being flipped on B&S.

But in the main Men's Clothing forum, there was more activity in the past. Well I'm not as very old member but at least that was the case when I joined. Maybe people are more inclined to focus on cheaper interests than clothes when the economic situation isn't going that well.

but you joined at the beginning of the crash.

I, for one, am probably buying more than ever with the sales and favorable exchange rates that are out there. I really need to stop!

I understand the Office of Management and Budget is now using StyleForvm post and visit counts in computing its Index of Leading Economic Indicators, so you might be onto something.

That would be misleading given that this is an international site

1) Prices could be dropping because people are selling above their costs. Costs of buying have gone down due to retail sales.

2) Few posts could be due to large quantities of worthless (or worth less) posts which have decreased the signal-to-noise ratio of worthwhile posts. Unfortunately that is how it goes with almost all internet ventures (starting with usenet groups).

I don't think it's made much of a difference, looking at the traffic stats. Growth has been pretty steady.

I'm sure the economic downturn has had at least a small impact on activity.

However, I would guess it's more a result of a natural ebb and flow of activity. I think a major contributor to this is those with 4-digit post counts no longer responding to the "I'm looking for a good suit under $x,xxx/best $yyy black captoe laceup/favorite $zzz cashmere sweater" threads. All the basics have been covered ad nauseum. For those that have posted (or, in my case, for the most part, lurked) for any period of time, there is little desire to repeat things that have been said hundreds of times or even link to those threads where they were said.

Seeing how most threads lately end up full of posts with nothing to do with the first post, you should be safe.
