I spend it with mom, dad, siblings, and other relatives and friends in my home state. We usually have a big bbq with lots of good food and merriment. This year we're having a pig roast.

Usually by blowing $100 on fireworks and leaving my driveway stinking of sulfur the next morning, but now I'm in California with these obnoxious laws keeping me down. I've felt less patriotic ever since.

when a friend who lives/d in California explained all the BS you have to go to get your car registered and all the other hippie laws I realized I couldn't enjoy living in California.

Go out on the boat or to the beach, drink to excess, glare at people, blow stuff up, steal food.

You'll like this quote. "No Morn ever dawned more favourable than ours did--and no day was ever more clouded than the present."--G. Washington, sometime in the 1780s

Last year we went to a pool in the complex where two russian girls gave us unlimited quantities of vodka and orange juice in exchange for letting them keep their booze and mixers in our cooler. As a result we were too drunk to make it to some friends' pool party and pretty much staggered off to bed.

This year we woke up early and did 45 minutes of cardio followed by 45 minutes of ab work. Then we had homemade whole wheat blueberry pancakes fortified with oatmeal then laid around our own pool until about 5:00, at which time we opened some havarti, brie, and 50% fat cheddar which we ate with sesame, wheat, and butter-something crackers, grapes, cherries, apples, and washed down with a bottle of savignon blanc. The fireworks were visible from the back yard and when they started around 9:00 we turned on the fire pit, fired up the sound system and a cigar, wrapped up in a blanket on a chaise lounge, opened a bottle of pinot grigio and toasted to the fact that even with taxes, a tanking economy, and a state budget that's so deep in the ******* that the grandchildren that we will never have will still be paying to balance it, it's good to be an American. Or at least better than the alternatives.

Food, family, friends, and plenty of booze. This year mostly craft/microbrews.

I spend the day wondering when a certain renegade state will give Her Majesty's colony back.
