How do you take good pictures with the iphone?

I see some great pictures on the WAYWRN thread taken via the iphone. I can't seem to get that quality, what am I doing wrong? I downloaded Steadycam, but I still have blurring. I guess I have to have more lighting because I otherwise I get a grainy image (quantum mottle like effect?). Too much light and there is blurring of white edges.

What do you guys do? Does the photo timer work better?
