How do you fly? Buttoned or Zipped?

Question for the ages... Why do you prefer your jeans with buttons or a zipper? Do you even have a preference?

I got the feeling some people see it as heritage vs. functionality and since polls are hot with the kids these days I thought I'd start one to investigate the debate.

My vote's for the trusty YKK (aka Universal on my rrl's).

As I posted in WAYWN:

After going to button fly jeans, I find it's zipper jeans a pain **********; reaching into your crotch, digging for your package, trying to thread your junk through your boxers and out a narrow opening (especially if its low-rise).

With button fly's, you just undo the belt, rip open the fly, do your thing and put away your package.

I used to like buttonfly but I hate it now. It's not a dealbreaker but I'm bummed when I see a jean I really like and it has buttonfly.

Trousers are too stiff with zips.

Haha, my story is the complete opposite. Can't stand zippers.

Don't have a huge preference. I prefer button for the coolness factor of putting on/taking off your pants. But in times when swift urination is necessary, a zip comes in handy.

I completely agree with Sonick. I wouldn't not buy a great pair of pants just because it had a zipper fly, but given a choice, I'd always go with buttons.

I have a fear of getting my nads stuck in a zipper. Button, please.

Buttons can be bulgy, but there's the severed weenie risk. Buttons have a certain je ne sais quoi to them... zippers, well they get the job done.

In the end, it doesn't matter too much...I'll swing both ways.

I can undo a belt and rip open a button fly (SO satisfying) much more quickly than I can undo a zipper nowadays.

It bothers me to read that while looking at the image of Julie Delpy. Really.

correct me if i'm wrong, and i might very well be, but didn't they use buttons on jeans at first because they were unsanforized and could handle the warping and shrinking of the cotton better than zippers could?

well didn't zippers only become common in the early 20th C?
