How do I transfer positions within a company?

UPDATE:
One of my friends did some asking around for me and it turns out that the job is already filled and that they are just posting for legal reasons!!!
The lady in the position now is also a contractor and they hired her on full time and apparently had to at least post the position.
What a bummer. I had my hopes up and spent so long making the perfect cover letter.
I still applied anyways but was able to save some face not asking her boss for the job I guess. Ugh. Back to the job hunt.
