I don't see the point of buying new ones every 2 weeks or so. Has anyone here tried sharpen them manually, and if so, how did you do it and what were the results? Thanks.

look into wet shaving with dual-edged blades, badger brush, and a quality soap. instead of spending $20 on a 4-pack you'll spend a few dollars for a hundred blades and you'll get a better shave.
I've been thinking of going the safety razor route but looks kind of dangerous, esp. on the hurry.
oh you will definitely definitely nick yourself more with a DE than with a cartridge, especially when just starting out. Youre not going to do any damage to yourself with a DE (assuming you dont take it to a vein anyhow), but you'll get the odd nick and cut here and there.
