How can I, numerically, tell if an AE is cordo?

I seem to remember there being a telltale digit added to the model number which indicates cordovanity. Any of you code-crackers know?

You can't, unfortunately. AE doesn't use a uniform code across models for colors/leathers/etc. Therefore, just email the number to AE and they'll tell you quickly. By the way, which model?

I have one pair with the sole stamped 'cordovan' if that is any help. I have no idea name/model of the shoe, but it is lace-up toe-cap.

some brown park aves I saw in a thrift store today (keezers, for the cantabs out there), which seemed to have a different texture and heft from the calf pairs I've had.

With AE the easiest way to tell is the heel. On calf AE's the heel is all rubber; with shell cordovan the heel ought to be leather with a rubber insert. Also look at the creasing. If the creasing has the spiderweb affect, then it's calf.
