how bad did the tailor screw up my jacket?

So I went to a new tailor for a new suit jacket alteration (probably my first mistake, right there) and she did a bit of a number on it. It looks like she took it in at the mid section of the back but not at the upper part of the back and now the upper part of the back, right below the collar, is bubbling out. It just won't lie flat and makes me look like a hunchback.

Is this a problem that anyone is familiar with anyone? Is it easy to fix or is my jacket wrecked? How should I go about getting this fixed with the original tailor? Finally, if the jacket is wrecked, would I have any recourse against the tailor? What have your experiences been..... thanks....

The tailor should have known adjusting the jacket in one place would affect it in another place. Personally, I would not take it back to that tailor, but take it to someone who does consistently good work instead, even if it costs more to take it there. Tell them what happened and they should be able to give you a fair assessment of whether or not it can be fixed. Without pictures, no one here will be able to tell you definitely if it can be fixed or not.

that's just too much fabric at the nape, a common alteration that any competent tailor should be able to fix. i would take it back to the new tailor and explain to her that the extra fabric came as a result of her previous alteration, and firmly insist that she fix the new problem free of charge (since, if i'm reading correctly, it was her fault).

Its not a HUGE bubble....so I really hope the problem is not so severe to be irreversible. It just looks like I have a collar that is bulging a little bit in the back of the jacket. In fact, thats what I thought it was at first. lol

Multiple choice, choose one.

A) She may not have wanted to take the time to open the under collar to take the seam in all the way to the top and stopped short. If the angle of the seam is too sharp it could cause a bubble.

B) The jacket is too tight across the back from being taken in and does not lay properly. This causes a roll under the collar do to the tension across your shoulder blades.

C) The problem was there before and no one saw it or overlooked it and is unrelated to the alteration.

D) You are turning your head to see the back in the mirror and the bubble appears. It will go away when you turn your head forward.

E) You are trying the jacket on with a polo shirt with a heavy collar, not a dress shirt and the bubble is caused by the bulk of the collar.

None of these are too serious. You need a correct diagnosis and she can fix it. Best to try things on when you pick them up and catch these things before you leave the shop.

A not uncommon occurrence. You really need a three way mirror if you want to properly assess the whole picture. BTW, I am very suspect of clothing establishments which do not have three way mirrors.
