1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

There is also the possibility of using the User Reputation system instead of post counts. I don't have much experience with it, but it helps identify respected members without referring to post count. I could look into setting that up.

Seems like an interesting system, though I don't much like popularity contests, especially formalized ones.

Personally, I think that there is no real problem that needs to be solved.

Unfortunately, this is exactly what rep systems are. They completely fucking suck. They're only of any use when the rep points actually carry some power and the community is sufficiently gigantic that knowing anyone is virtually impossible. So, basically, Slashdot, Fark, online deal sites, etc. And even those communities generally hate the systems they use. If someone's spamming, put his ass on read only for a few days and send Ken to kick his ass. Problem solved.

I think j laying down the law (and deleting egregious post-padding threads) should resolve any concerns. Plenty of precedent for banning a member based upon low signal-to-noise ratio. See Ernest v. StyleForum; Matter of Lazarillo.

I think it would be best if people could just realize that a high post count does not make you cooler. Good posts make you cooler. I'd much rather have a member with 100 good posts and no stupid ones than a member with 100 good posts and 4900 stupid ones.

I hope everyone understands that I posted the "˜infamous post' as a joke since the whole post count thing was crazy...same goes with my signature.

I am making fun of that fact that I "˜worked' so hard to get my post count, by posting and not doing actual work, at work.

Just because you post a lot, doesn't mean it's good in quality.

Wow, if this isn't a post regarding:

Please, no abolition of post count and no user ratings. I can't imagine that this is a problem on this forum.

And yet...it seems to be taken more seriously by some than others. Speaking of which I am still hard at work, @ work upping my thread count [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Same goes with Cuffthis (although the restaurant might keep him busy these days). Hopefully, all is well going well for Tom.

I doubt his motivation was post count.

Laughing my fucking ass off [IMG]

No, better not say anything...soon they will start to call me Jon 3000 and I will have to start wearing hats and a lot of v-neck sweaters:
