How about abolishing post count?

I don't know about you, but I'm getting tired of content-less obbsessive posting that only seems to serve the poster in jacking up his post count. This behaviour creates a lot of noise, usless load on the server, derails good threads and makes grumpy people even grumpier.

Wouldn't just 'Joined date' do, to identify new members?

There are really less than a handful of people who do that - and most currently jacking up their post count will soon get bored as the euphoria of returning to SF wears off. Just m .02, doesn't make much of a difference to me.

I agree with getting rid of it. It's the handful who are a bit tedious, and if it didn't wear off w/ SF v. 1.0, it's not going to wear off with 2.0.

My first poll - not happy how it turned out. Even I, had to think before casting my vote.

Let's see how this turns out.

I counted a fingerful.

I am agnostic on the post-count issue, because I don't think anyone is under the illusion that a high post count correlates with quality posts. There are low-post-count members whose posts I consistently enjoy reading, and high-post-count members whose posts consistently make me wish I had the last 30 seconds of my life back.

Agreed. The only thing more tiring than reading hundreds of posts on rude shoe salesmen is reading hundreds of posts on having to get one's post count back up to some preset level. And then having that sentiment repeated in the message signature...

Look, Matt, don't even try it: he was so clearly talking about me.

And, btw, I'd like to change my vote to "who gives a damn, get rid of post counts to foster new meaning in life."

I like to think of myself as one who proves that it's possible to have a low post count and yet still provide meaningless information.

For the record, I honestly don't care whether the post count is shown or not.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
