    OB could probably benefit from having a trusted business manager accompany him on these meetings. I agree that he doesn't appear to fully understand the nitty gritty of business.

    Has anyone else noticed that the people who are producing this series also feature prominently in it? The Silverman guy he met with who suggested he franchise is exec producer, while the filmmaking friend is also the fellow making this series...

    Is Chicago the kind of market that would support OB?


    A OB outpost would wither on the vine in Chicago. I would think NYC as the most viable location for his ilk. Very little tailored clothing is worn in Los Angeles, Miami and Las Vegas, comparatively speaking.

    And does anyone know when a rerun of the third episode is coming on?

    the official site says it's on at 8:30pm tonight. and the night before that it said 9pm so i think it rotates around that time every night until a new episode airs.

    i totally missed that part about all of the other markets Boateng mentioned in addition to NYC and LA. maybe he could push thru Miami with Miami Vice? agreed re: "flashy" comment about Vegas. Chicago? hmm.

    yes, Boateng seems to be more of a creative type than a businessman, and good partners in that regard would be most important in his success. i think NYTimes or WashPost just had an article about the direction of men's fashion in the US saying it's getting increasing attention (and $$$) compared to women's couture here, so maybe there is a market Boateng too.

    The series was actually developed out of a poject Ozwald's friends (Silverman etc.) were making about him. Ozwald's known for his short films and has been working with these guys for years. Robert Redford saw a rough of the film and re-purposed it for the sundance channel series.

    The series was actually developed out of a poject Ozwald's friends (Silverman etc.) were making about him. Ozwald's known for his short films and has been working with these guys for years. Robert Redford saw a rough of the film and re-purposed it for the sundance channel series.

    that's really interesting to know - it seems like Varon Bonicos - the filmmaker friend - has a pretty good insight into how his friend Boateng works. i hope he takes some of that advice too because i completely understand (though not on the scale of running a fashion busineses) what it's like to aspire to be a perfectionist but at some point you have to let some things out of your hands and hire good people to work on it on your behalf. i think a lot of that came out during last night's episode where he's trying to do all the negotiating for real estate space in nyc, hire PR people and plan a show in Milan all at once...

    last nite's episode was a bit embarrassing, for Ozwald. He really seemd unprepared with presenting the hard numbers and a solid business plan, other than "I want to be as big as Armani" to the potential investors. As much as I like his label, I think he needs to understand that his brand is not the "everyman's" brand the way Armani could be construed. I am surprised at his lack of business acumen, considering how far he has taken his own label in London.

    I was hoping that one investor would reveal if his suit was made in England or Italy when he was quizzing Ozwald on it.

    Doesn't this guy have a business manager or something to go and give the numbers to the investors? Does he think just being enthusiastic is enough to convince people to drop the cash on him?

    apparently he does. no wonder I dont have my purple palace of goodness in LA yet. funny, I was just at the location he was scoping out the other day, at "Wilshire Fireplaces" which is still there and still unoccupied.

    I Tivo'd this and saw the first half and have to agree with Get Smart -- OB appears to be very unsaavy and naive with respect to operating a business. Aiming high is one thing, but OB's "vision" for his business seems a bit pie in the sky to me. Based on what I've seen thus far, it's little surprise to me that his first venture in the US failed.

    I will commend him on actually airing this footage...

    Boateng's appraisal of the potential investor's attire and his comments about consumer knowledge level were very interesting.

    Essentially, he faces the problem of having to convince the public that his clothes are better quality and worth a premium. Unfortunately for him, since nuances of color and texture are best judged in person, the opinion here is that he has to somehow make his suits (and other pieces) available at more locations than he has been discussing in the episodes and preferably next to similarly priced items that aren't as good. If he merely wishes to make his clothes popular by having celebrities "pimp" for him, i.e., the status effect, that can be done.

    OB is the reason that everyone is excited about London Tailors again.
    Anyone in the mens fashion industry especially related to tailored goods
    knows this. So his (smugness) is almost justified!!! He resurrected London!!!

    And oftentimes he hated for that! Don't hate the player, hate the game!!

    I think that his reality TV show is a great marketing tool! I love it.

    "I need a good partner" or "I want to be like Armani" is not a viable business plan. From what little I have seen, Boateng, whatever his quality as a designer/tailor, has a small business mentality at best.

    What "Most Americans" don't know is that in Europe you build a brand first by means of retail then you branch off to wholesale. So it is a culture shock. In America his business plan may seem "small", but in fact in Europe it's the way its done. He's going to do fine!
