Houndstooth sport coat: How to make it look "young"?

I'm in my 30s and just picked up a beautiful gray houndstooth sport coat. I'm not sure how to wear it, and I fear that houndstooth will instantly make me look much older than I am. I'm not looking to dress like a 23-year-old kid, but I'd like to be able to wear this jacket in a way that is young and stylish.

Can I wear it with blue jeans? How can I "dress it down" so that I maintain some semblance of being hip?

Thanks for any advice you may have!

Pictures (preferably of you wearing it) would be useful in making a decision

Here's a pic I had saved. Is it something deconstructed like this in which case this is a pretty relaxed way to pull it off or is it a thick, carpety winter houndstooth?

I have a grey/black houndstooth jacket, wear it with white tees or dress shirt, black jeans and black boots. Looks allright. In the winter I add a burgundy sweater or something.

Think about the colour, tone and texture of the jacket, if it is dark and textured you should have no problem mixing it with less formal items like some good dark denim etc. if however the cloth is neat and smooth it will look out of place paired with jeans. If the coat is pale try pulling the lower half up with a tonally matched shirt, again in a less formal fabric like a linen or slubby chambray. all IMHO of course.

Houndstooth and other loud patterns are in. See Tom Ford.
Wear with more casual shirt and slim trousers.

I'd hardly describe houndstooth as 'loud' it's a classic
timeless pattern IMHO.
I'm thinking of having a nice soft neopolitan 3 roll 2 made up in Harrisons worsted flannel in grey houndstooth, full canvas of course.

Just wear it - photographs needed if you remain concerned.
