I'm probably going to Toronto next week to visit some friends. I don't really want to stay in a "Days Inn" kinda place. I'd like a nice room (so 4stars). I just started searching for deals and I found a site called hotwire that gives discount rates but doesn't tell you at which hotel, only how many stars it has. I'm inclined against it as there are other discount sites that don't hide the hotel name from you.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had used it or something similar. I'd like to stay under 130/night. I'm most likely booking for sunday/monday/tuesday.

I found http://www.onekingwest.com/suites/gallery.html place for $120/night. It looks nice from the pictures but I've been disappointed like that before. The safe choice is the Westin Harbour Castle.

Any thoughts on Toronto hotels or discount sites in general?

I've used a site like that before. I can't recall which one it was though, this was 2 years ago. I think it was helpful in that it pretty easily organized a long list of hotels and gave me their information, room sizes, prices, etc all on one page, saving me the time of looking them up individually. I don't really remember getting a better deal from using the site though.

Ok, checking kayak. Looking at rates, I was so spoiled for so long. I so miss my Starwood hookup though (employee rates wherever I went).

FWIW, I ended up using gtahotels.com. It gave me by far the best price for my last-minute booking. I got a king at the Sheraton Center downtown for $150cdn including taxes. (prices went up drastically from when i first started looking). The westin harbour castle, my usual preference, was up to 200/night, which is basically no savings at all.

I also would add to the list skyscanner.net... one feature I like is you can leave the destination open, then organize by price. so basically if you have a certain window and don't really know where you want to go, you can just find the cheapest tickets to wherever.
