I did a quick Internet search on horse leather and it was hard to find the answer I was looking for. I am looking at a pair of boots in China and these are made from horse leather, not shell cordovan. I talked to the seller and his horse leather is supplied from Japan along with his shell cordovan.
How good is horse leather for a pair of shoes over the likes of calfskin, shell cordovan and other more common leathers? Is this a viable leather for footwear? For dress shoes or work boots?
And because I know someone will say it, I realize these boots are "Chinese made" where there is a massive chance they are fake/terrible constructed/not real leather/etc. etc. etc. But for the sake of my curiosity, I am interested in the practical uses of horse leather and how it stands up compared to other leathers.
Boots in question. Warning, this is China's Taobao so everything is in Chinese.
