Well, since I've seen the touristy side of Vietnam as well as the ghettos where people life in shacks made of leave and corrugated sheet metal, so I wouldn't be too keen on going to Vietnam, although I think anybody who is not familiar with the culture would love Saigon. I think it's fairly similar to Shanghai in that it's changed a lot over the years, yet it retains a lot of it's culture. Although Saigon (I just remembered most people call it Ho Chi Minh City. I don't know many people in Saigon who actually call it that though.) is nowhere near as impressive as Shanghai. I would love to go back to Shanghai again and spend more time there.

South America is definitely on the top of my list as well. I'd visit Buenos Aires any day, but that's me.

avoid France, winters here are really unspectacualr, unless you can afford skiing in the alps, there are some nice places here but were overun by rich russian oil and aluminum tycoons. expect to pay upwards of 600 EUR for a bottle of cheap booze in nightclubs. USVI are great, st croix is pretty cheap for the carribean and its USD. not to mention weather.

NZ and Argentina are about as good suggestions as you can get. It'll be mid spring in NZ in Dec, so temps will be coolish, but ideal for trekking about.

My wife and I went to Prague last December and had a great time. Prague at Christmas time is lovely, and its the off season for tourism so accommodations are cheaper. They're on the kroner (although Euros are accepted) so the exchange rate was not too bad.

Prague is great albeit a bit chilly. Mexico could be nice. It depends if you want to catch some sun or if you want places to visit. then again Mexico seems to have both.

or go to lake Baikal!
