Morning All,

Newbie here, so I apologies if this is the wrong area but I am visiting Hongkong from USA for a week in August.

I was hoping to get 2 or 3 suits tailored while I was there and was looking for good recommendations for make to order tailor. Currently the recommendations I have are

- William Cheung
- Mustache
- Ricky Boo..

I looked up and it seems like that Mustache has been closed so thought I should ask the forum to see if there are some good tailors that I can go to for Suit fitting and tailoring. Here are criteria for the tailors I am looking for..

- Price range 300 USD - 500 USD. I am flexible at the price range, I am looking for good quality
- Can do it within 7 days.. or at least, the fittings can be done in 7 days and then they can ship the finished suits to USA.
- Great fabric range
- Good at Contemporary and classic styles.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I apologies if I treaded wrongly. However, I did search for the threads and most of them are focused on price conscious tailors. I am not worried about the price but the quality and turnaround time.

here are the threads I looked at before posting.. I apologize if I missed any.. I will delete this thread if you can point me to the thread that already have HK tailor info. I hope that I haven't offended you.

Search is indeed your friend, I find it very hard to believe that you did not find the leading thread, every one else has so done.

You will not get good quality at those prices, indeed you would be better saving your money and going to suit supply at home. Do not make the mistake of thinking Hong Kong is cheap. It is not, it is a high wage economy and quality is priced accordingly.

Just in case you don't pick out the main points:
  • Who on earth are these suppliers (I'll forebear to call them tailors or the like)
  • Many Hong Kong tailors can meet a range of requirements.
  • Beware of cheap Chinese cloth - don't call a Hongkonger 'Chinese', he'd be likely to put you out of his shop.
  • Avoid the Asian touts at Star Ferry, Kowloonside, Rags are Us.
  • Avoid Sams, Rags are also Us
  • Buy one good suit rather than several crap ones.
  • Look at >$HK8,500 as the least a decent tailor would charge, probably away from the lights. AMHC at the Mandarin in Central would make a superb suit for you but not at your budget or $HK8,500
  • Most tailors do not haggle, if they do they are not good.
  • Best tailors which you cannot afford would be Chan, Yao, Y William Yu, below that I guess people will advocate Barrowman and the like.

I will add to this(if you don't know this already):

-Wear a proper shirt when you go for your fittings.
-Wear proper shoes.
-Know what you would like(side vents/peak vs notch lapel/cuffs/etc.)
-Make sure that you have a minimum of 3 fittings after the initial measurements are taken.
-Try to pick up the finished product vs having it shipped. You really want to take a last look at the suit on your person at the shop before leaving.
