hong kong sat till wed- shirts

I will be in Hong Kong on a saturday afternoon till wed morning, in august. I would like to get some new shirts, and I would like to try either Jantzen or Chang.

1. taking into consideration time, cost and quality, who should i use?

2. will these shirtmakers be able and willing to make me a shirt quickly enough for me to try it and order 9 more, between saturday and Tuesday (or bring the shirts to my hotel Wed morning)?

I have done the above with less well regarded, and possibly more hungry shirt makers, I don't know if I can get this service from these guys. any advice/recomendations?

Jantzen probably can. I wouldvisit on Saturday pm for fitting and fabric selection.

Chiang can certainly do that without problem.

The branch at the Peninsular hotel is extremely good.

Ascot Chang has turned around a single-shirt order in 24 hours for me, and had a multi-shirt order ready to go about 3 days thereafter. They can also ship the additional shirts to you in the US. They'll cost you three to six times as much as Jantzen, though.

I've never used Jantzen, and my orders with WW Chan have always been US tour orders or emailed orders.

David's Shirts in the Mandarin-Oriental (Central). Jimmy Chen in the Peninsula Arcade. The latter is good for more casual shirts. They have some red leather-boiund books of English cloth that is good.

then the big question is - which one should i go to? honestly, I am price sensitive. on the other hand, I have several dozen shirts, and am really just getting new ones because I have seen some really nice shirts recently and want better shirts than what I have (which are bespoke indian shirts) .......

Price is material-driven. IIRC, they have fabrics that start just below $100, but once you get into Thomas Mason Silverline or better, you should expect to be over $150/shirt.

WW Chan's prices are lower than Ascot Chang. You might give WW Chan a shot as well--their fabric selection isn't as broad as Ascot Chang, and their collars and cuffs don't have the same pop, but you may find that WW Chan is a better bang for the buck.

thanks - I am actually very happy with the construction of my present shirts, I was hoping to get better fabrics, but I also was hoping to pay less... so I am torn. and since I have a lot of work to cover, I don't want to waste too much time running around. I have a month or so to mull this over.....

Ah, the world is full of mutually exclusive goals!

I think you should consider going to Jantzen as the goal. You can always hit up Ascot Chang (or obviously WW Chan for that matter) on their US tours--their prices aren't much different on tour than in HK (indeed, Chan can be cheaper on the US tour than in HK).

yes, such is life. I think I will look in on Jantzen and check his fabrics.

yeah i dont think you will be disappointed with Jantzen. Ricky is a great guy, they have mountains in there to choose from, price is right and construction is good.

Ive always had 48 hr turnaround in store, never ordered more than 5 at once though

cool. bty - looks like I will be in singapore around 18 or so of August. any chance that you will be around?

i would go to Jantzen as they can do them within 48 hours and give you a fair quality product and a fair price if you looking for somethind out of the ordinary then i would not go to them - but thats me, plus i live in HK so i am spoilt for choice

Keep in mind that you will most likely get what you pay for (there is no free lunch).
If I were in HK, i would rather go to a reputable shirtmaker/tailor like Ascot Chang or David's Shirts (http://movies.nytimes.com/top/featur..._clothing.html), and would stay away from deep discount shops.

Honestly, i do not understand the rave about jantzen.
