Hi all,

My fiance and I are getting married on Memorial Day next year and are starting to think about where to go on a honeymoon. We're looking for someplace where we can do a combination of beaching and light sightseeing, preferably somewhere we won't have to compete with thousands of tourists and vacationers and can really relax.

We've both traveled quite a bit in Spain and Italy so we probably aren't looking to do either of those, but we're leaning toward somewhere in Europe (although we're open-minded).

We're just at the point of putting a list of ideas together, so, anybody have a great spot to recommend?

If you are open-minded go to borneo in Malaysia...trust me, you will have a swell time.

I always enjoy Bali and the Maldives, but that's not in Europe. Of course there are always the Rivieras and the Amalfi coast, but they're pretty touristy. Dalmatia?

have you looked into any of the Greek islands? You can keep the tourists to an acceptable level if you stay away from the usual suspects (Santorini, Mykonos, etc....)

Yes, we were definitely thinking that could be a great idea. Any islands in particular that are quiet and have good places to stay? I'm not too familiar beyond the "usual suspects".

I'm most familiar with Leros and Rhodes, as I have family there. Rhodes is bigger, and probably more suitable for you. They're quite far from Athens however. But I haven't been there in years. Though I hope to make it out there this fall.

Not sure what your budget is, but if you have money to spare check out http://www.amanresorts.com/. They are almost all in amazing locations and IMO offer a perfect balance between resort/relaxation and sightseeing/tourism, all with amazing service. Their resorts in Indonesia are phenomenal, and I hear the new property in Montenegro (Sveti Stefan) is quite special.

I've only been to the Cyclades and the mainland, but we really enjoyed Naxos and Paros. Decent beaches, quaint mountain villages & port towns, temples & other archeological sites.... Both definitely had a tourist element but not even close to being in the same league as Santorini with scores of cruise ships coming in every day.

I was married this past October, and my wife and I did Greece since her family is Greek. Around Memorial Day the weather should be getting warmer, but the crowds start to arrive in June. Crete is pretty far from the mainland, but Blue Palace is amazing http://www.bluepalace.gr/ If nothing else the logistics should keep the crowds away. We spent a week in Athens at Astir Palace (George Papandreou checked in while we were there

), and a week in the islands afterwards.
