bernoulli, what is the width of the leg opening at the base of those trousers?
Can't you see he's throwing you a bone with the curled tips on his collar? Try to keep up.
Any elaboration would be appreciated! So far I have purchase two pairs of boots that were rejected by this august assembly as illegal to wear with a tie. I hope this does not make it three.
Edited for superior meme.
I think these boots work well with this attire of yours.Thoughts on these boots with a city look? I know they are somewhat country but I figure I can get away with it with an odd jacket. I'm mostly planning to wear them in the snow.

I happened to run into @upr_crust while taking these pics. He was wearing a polo shirt and still looked better than me.
Checking in and it looks like business as usual for my well dressed pals. Carry on then...
Thanks, I'm glad you think so. I've only recently started to wear odd jackets and trousers on a regular basis, so I'm still feeling my way through the more casual spectrum.I think these boots work well with this attire of yours.
You are young, slim and tall - God bless you! - so a little digression from the canonics of classic business dress is perfectly legitimate!

Thanks for the advice. I would rather keep the boots and change the outfit to be more casual. If I really really need to be formal I can always wear my hiking boots and change into black captoes at the office.Personally, for this task I would prefer boots that looked a bit more dressy and with a lower half more akin to a shoe, if that makes sense. There are a lot of chukka's out there that would meet the criteria, but I am not sure they would be as weather proof as you want, although still better than normal low shoes.
That said, if you are looking at taller boots feeling you need that additional weather resistance, your still going to have problems with lower legs on your trousers getting soaked/dirty ec if conditions are that bad....
As a counterpoint, I'd offer that the following make the boots larger, and more casual than they are:Thanks for the advice. I would rather keep the boots and change the outfit to be more casual. It seems like SF considers a navy hopsack blazer to require quite formal shoes, which is surprising to me. Do I just need to pair it with a more casual tie and trouser for increased versatility?
As for trouser damage, in snow and heavy rain I usually wear my $25 Gap trousers. On my last pair the plastic zipper gave out just before the salt stains got bad.
There's a chance of rain tomorrow so maybe I'll wear my black chukkas and see what you gents think.

As a counterpoint, I'd offer that the following make the boots larger, and more casual than they are:
- you're taking the photo from a low point of view, and wide angle; this magnifies what is close, making you appear to have gigantic feet;
- you are as others have pointed out quite slim and tall, which compounds the issue by putting the top further from the visually oversized bottom;
- most of the photos here are taken from a high point of view - at least chest, if not head height - which is also the point of view most of us have IRL.
So, I'd offer you take new shots from a higher point, or from further (using optical zoom, or cropping a larger sensor shot). Coupled with maybe a hint of a glaze on the hard parts of the boot, I suspect people will react differently.
I understand the concept - I just can't execute it because I don't know how casual or formal different things are. I paired these items together because I thought they were approximately in the same place on the spectrum. But I have learned not to trust my own eye because, to put it succinctly, I have no sense of style. I'm not trying to be bold or to do an unusual pairing here - I just think that a navy hopsack jacket is on approximately the same level as a (knockoff) galway boot. Now of course I have learned that this is not correct, but I still consider this a success because I now have some new information.I think this has been said in many different ways, but I don't think you will be successful if you try to make something more casual by pairing it with less casual things. That was the central point of that blog post you cited a while back, and I'm thinking you maybe missed that point. So the navy sportcoat will not work with heavy boots like those. Also the white TV square and the tie are most likely too formal for the navy hopsack sportcoat+gray worsted pants combo. So you've got like three different levels going on there. Chukkas might work better, and maybe something like a repp tie or something less formal, and probably not a white TV fold.
Thanks for all the thoughtful answers! You guys are the best.
You are right - I usually take photos from higher up, but I wanted to accentuate the boots in those shots. I recently got an iPhone which seems to have a much worse camera than my Pixel 2, but the company is paying for it so I can't refuse.

Do you really think a madder tie is too formal for a navy blazer? Just where exactly does this blazer fall? I thought it was supposed to be a very versatile jacket, but if it's too casual for a madder tie and too formal for a galway boot I don't really know what I could wear it with.
Trousers are hopsack as well btw.
Thanks again for your replies! I feel more confused than ever, but I'm learning.
