After a very wet sojourn to Washington DC for an extended weekend break, and another wet day here in NYC, the weather has returned to sunshine and pleasant temperatures, making suit-wearing a viable avocation for the day. As it is, I am meeting friends for drinks in the evening, providing me with a perfect excuse to dress up.

Today's attire includes things I've not worn in a long time - today's tie hasn't seen the light of day in years, literally, and the other pieces haven't had their day in the sun in a while.

Suit, tie, & shoes - Paul Stuart
Shirt - Tyrwhitt
Cufflinks - Penhaligon's
Braces - Albert Thurston
Pocket square - New & Lingwood

A tribute to @upr_crust, who continues to teach me a lot. This suit was commissioned based on how well he carries a windowpane suit. I cannot say the same, but I still enjoy wearing this suit. The scarf was bought in his august presence and it has remained my favorite since then.

A few years back I designed and adopted a modernization of Regency menswear with the innovations of the past 140 years. Something I have wanted to do since I was 3 or 4 years old but was difficult to convince myself if going against the grain this hard was worth it. Ultimately, as I approach 40 I decided being what I most truly love always is. This modernized Regency style is something I have been wearing often the past 3 years (In addition to my modern London Neoclassical Revival Style), but have refrained from posting anything this far back on here. No hard feelings if this attire is too idiosyncratic or eccentric for styleforum and needs to be deleted.

I think it looks good. I think the only thing that seems outlandish here is the hat. The clothes definitely make sense in a modern context. Note I live in New York where anything goes.

The Hat with it's suppressed waist and extra long oval narrow block is more evocative of the 1890's-1910's. It really balances my face, however a more Regency Style Top Hat, would really flare out with little to no suppression in the waist and not a narrow profile, as extra long oval hat blocks were not invented till a few decades after King George IV died. This style Bell Crown Top Hat has a much more refined and graceful silhouette compared to early 19th century Bell Crown Top Hats, however the original Bell Crown styles certainly suited the original aesthetic.

Many areas of Los Angeles are like that as well. I never imagined in a million years, but thankfully San Diego is following suit. Just the Era we live in.
