Before the internet was invented we all went to Brooks Brothers (and elsewhere) and got 3/roll 2 jackets fully understanding the function of the buttons was to regulate our temperature. All buttons unbuttoned was the coolest and all buttons buttoned, as I am demonstrating here with a jacket I got at Brooks Brothers in the seventies, was the warmest.

After the internet was invented silly twits who weren't born when we got our jackets and who had never seen a 3/roll 2 jacket in person started making up all sorts of silly rules about how to button 3/roll 2 jackets and declaring it was impossible to button all three buttons without the jacket becoming horribly misshapen.

We know these jackets are our property and we can button them any way we want and we wish all the silly twits who make up silly "rules" online would get off our lawns.

Brooks Brothers tweed jacket, PPBD shirt, BB#1 stripe tie, and pocket square, Lands' End trousers, and Allen-Edmonds shoes.

12 hour drive yesterday. Running off three hours of sleep. A suit is always easy. Wearing my Brooks Brothers British Warm. One of my first ever thrift purchases. $65 at a charity shop on the upper east side circa 2005. Never got around to lengthen the sleeves.

Love the outfit. And no need to lengthen the sleeves. You're showing the perfect amount of shirt cuff, just the way it is. Any longer, and your cuffs won't show. Great find!

The weather in NYC is overcast and cold, though not threatening rain or snow at the moment. I have an event to attend at the Modern this evening, for which I would like to be presentable, but have no need to be "dressed up" as such - the crowd at events at the Modern is younger and more hip, generally, than the same set of attendees might be at the Met or the Frick. The tie might well be superfluous, but the shirt is a tab collared shirt, so a tie is a necessity, and it was the next plain shirt on my rack, so it was selected.

Tie and pocket square are too "matchy-matchy" - I am aware, but it was the best selection of that which was available - do forgive . . .

I am not sure I understand your comment, do you find clothing with appropriate drape to be uncomfortable? I find that these two things are not at odds, clothing should have good proportions, drape well and be comfortable.

No. I was just lamenting on how much I enjoy flannel but accept the drape is not as good as other materials, especially when they catch on one's socks.
