What I wore earlier in the week. I bought this Made in England Pierre Balmain jacket at the end of last winter. Found it in a charity shop in nearly new condition with spare buttons in an inside pocket. It has since been to my alterations tailor and I am quite pleased with the result.

Speaking for myself I don't think this rule should be too prescriptive.

When I wear high waisted trousers my outfit will normally be more balanced with the long blade going beyond the waist. Otherwise it can look very short.

It depends on one's anatomy, one rule does not fit all but balance always looks right.
I think it's a specific planned look as opposed to the tie being too long. I've seen others on instagram with similar.
Just my take.

Both you style and photos reminds me of TRINI's.
Thank you, sir. That's a huge compliment as TRINI is a legend around here. I guess I'll need to work on my TRINI copywritten "hand in pocket" pose next and I should be all set!

After two days of unsettled weather, the weather in NYC has cooled and brightened, making it possible again to dress for the day. As it is, today is the maiden voyage for today's sports jacket, a find from the Paul Stuart warehouse sale, just back from the tailor (adjustments to the sleeves, and sleeve buttons attached).

As the fabric is a wool/silk/linen blend, this is the tail end of the season in which I could conceivably wear it, but this afternoon should be warm enough to warrant such a lightweight garment.

Sports jacket - Paul Stuart
Shirt & trousers - Brooks Brothers
Tie - Ralph Lauren Purple Label
Pocket square - Drake's, via the Armoury, NYC
Shoes - Paul Stuart

I hear you, to a point. But when the neckwear sinks to the Trumpian level of crotch-covering ties, that's a terrible look, planned or not. :)
