On Santa Monica Pier.

Malibu way off to the left and Pacific Palisades way off to the the right and what the surf reports call "South Facing Beaches" behind me.

Brooks Brothers Madras jacket, blue and white gingham PPBD shirt, and tie, Squrextarordinaire pocket square, Vineyard Vines belt and trousers, Polo Ralph Lauren argyle socks, and Allen-Edmonds suede shoes.

For fans of "Piece-Of-A-Person" pictures, a piece of a person with a Chinese Chicken Salad at Bazille in Nordstrom Santa Monica picture.

On Santa Monica Pier. California reopened today. Everything is at 100% capacity, there is no more "social distancing", and fully vaccinated people don't have to wear face masks except in medical buildings, prisons, and homeless shelters.

On Santa Monica Pier, one of the very few police vehicles with a surf board. The yellow thing in the background lowers the Harbor Patrol boat into the water.

Those who have seen the film "1941" may remember the scene where a Japanese submarine surfaces off Santa Monica Pier and shells the Ferris Wheel. The Japanese submarine that surfaced off the coast actually shelled some oil storage tanks near Santa Barbara and a passing train, missing both.

The weather is just about perfect here today in NYC - sunny, low humidity, and highs around 26C/78F. I am having lunch with a friend of very long standing this afternoon - a casual affair for which I am most likely overdressed, but, it wouldn't be the first time (nor the last, I suspect). At least everything is cotton, save the tie and the pocket square.

Last day of classes. On to finals.

First outing of this vintage Brooks Brothers poplin suit. Undarted, patch pockets, 3/2 roll and swelled edges. I’m in heaven.

I dropped a few pounds so these pants fit better, but still have some pocket flare. I had the thighs let out. I need to iron these better.

When I was in Malibu several years ago (ate at Duke’s, saw Robert Downey Jr!) I pulled into Paradise Cove - the gatekeeper allowed me to pull in, circle the car park and leave, which allowed me to tip my invisible hat in memory of my old man. When I was a youngun we’d always watch The Rockford Files together, it was his favourite show and I reckon he’d get a kick knowing the kid was able to visit right where Jim kept his trailer and went fishing with Rocky on the pier nearby!
