I count 14 permutations off the top of my head

Right, but say you add in five shirts and ties, and suddenly you can go weeks without repeating the same outfit.

Just pointing out how it might be possible.

Is it uncouth to ask, how much do people in this thread spend per year on clothing? I'm at ~$3K/year over the past few years and feel like I have nowhere near the wardrobe to make daily, super interesting fits like most on here. Granted that is between footwear, casual wear, athletic/athleisure, and CM so it doesn't go very far in each category.

Too much!

I might suggest taking a look at Simon Cromptons (of permanent style) capsule guides for some inspiration on versatile pieces. While Simon definitely doesn't encourage frugality, I think his writing on picking versatile pieces is pretty good. 2 jackets, 3 pairs of trousers, 3 shirts, 3 pairs of shoes and a modest collection of ties/pocket squares still give you a LOT of versatility - it's easy to be intimidated by the wardrobes of some of the people here (not to mention the fits, the combinations and the ability to wear them) but I think the way to get there is to build a solid base of versatile pieces and get really good at spotting the right combinations.

One day...
