Normally, I would like to think of myself as a sane, rational being. With the state of the weather today in NYC (threatening rain, even as I write), the state of the city (still in lockdown, though it seems that private construction is moving forward), and the state of the nation's psyche (in turmoil), there is no earthly reason for me to dressed at all, other than to obey the local decency laws, and as protection from Mother Nature.

However, the heart wants what it wants, and today, I wanted to wear an outfit that made me happy. Will it be seen by anyone, outside of my immediate household and the readers of this forum? Most likely no. Do I care? Not a whit.

Whitcomb & Shaftesbury.
Here the fit is much better than yesterday, but the problem is due to angora in this cloth from W Bill, the trousers don't drape nor crease that well.
Besides that; not so easy to go straight every day.

Great suit. The fit of the suit looks about the same as yesterday’s. I can’t tell the difference. That tie knot is atrocious.

Belatedly, an outfit from a few days ago, when I needed to make an errand to the office.

Since others in this thread have hinted at recent events, I shall chime in. I've noticed some folks on here lamenting the looting going on in wake of the protests. The destruction of property is unfortunate, but the shooting of unarmed black people has to stop. That is the only valid response.

As Martin Luther King reminds us, a riot is the voice of the unheard. In his Letter from Birmingham Jail, MLK censures "the white moderate who is more devoted to order than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says, 'I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action.'" It bears repeating that he wrote that letter from a jail. He wasn't a "peaceful" protester. Law enforcement was not on his side. Here is a link to the rest of MLK's letter, for those interested:

If this not-so-gentle reminder gets me branded as a social justice warrior, then so be it. I embrace the consequences of my words.

I pose with this week's reading. In honor of pride month and recent events, I chose Saeed Jones' How We Fight for Our Lives, a memoir by a black gay writer who grew up in the south.

Set phasers to READ, just like Levar Burton. Or, as Ru Paul once said, reading is fundamental.

On one of the online menswear forums to which I post with some regularity, one of the other posters asked how many suits that I own. That question threw me, as I had no absolute idea as to how many suits I do own, and for a quick guesstimate, I said "roughly 30". For the record, a quick review of the closets reveal that I own 39 suits, which might be why I occasionally come across things that I had forgotten that I own, today's suit being one of them.

The weather in NYC is predicted to be stormy by the afternoon, which is fine, as I have no intention of leaving home today, such that I can wear what I want, so long as I don't go outside. As it is currently very warm and very humid, the charms of the out of doors have palled for the nonce - I'll stay in, thanks.

Suit - Paul Stuart/Phineas Cole
Shirt - Brooks Brothers
Tie - Paul Stuart
Cufflinks - M P Levene, London (now defunct)
Braces - Brooks Brothers
Pocket square - Alain Figaret
Shoes - Bergdorf Goodman house brand

Rather cool and overcast (June Gloom) today.

Brooks Brothers Golden Fleece (Made In Italy) silk and wool blend jacket, pink and white gingham PPBD shirt, repp tie. and (pre "Officious Preppy Handbook") white cotton and polyester blend trousers, Squarextraordinaire pink polka dot pocket square, and Allen-Edmonds white suede shoes.

For fans of "Piece-Of-A-Person" pictures, a piece of a person with Pollo Al Funghi, roast potatoes at Tuscan Son (on Santa Monica Blvd just east of Overland Avenue in West Los Angeles) picture.

Some restaurants have started reopening with outside seating. Unfortunately a number of restaurants either closed forever during the lockdown or were badly damaged in the rioting and looting.

Hoping the barber shop will reopen next week. Although barber shops could reopen last Friday, the barber shop I have been going to since the late seventies is still closed since after the rioting and looting all over Beverly Hills last Saturday there was a daytime curfew in Beverly Hills starting at 1:00pm so very few places reopened, particularly after employees in the places that had reopened last Friday had to flee for their lives when the rioting and looting started around noon on Saturday.
