+1 - solid blue shirt would have been much better, though the shape of the jacket is awesome (more close-fitting than some might like, but it's your style - it works for you).

For Tibor, a picture from the summer of 2013, taken on a day that my friend thought that we should both wear our straw hats. I am wearing a straw hat that I got at Brooks Brothers in 1964, along with a Brooks Brothers blazer (from the seventies) and an ecru BD shirt, a Roosterknit tie (from the sixties), J. Crew Madras trousers, and Florsheim shoes.....

.....although we sat outside at lunch and my friend was able to keep her hat on, I took my hat off, and I then had the problem of finding somewhere to put it. The hat-caused problems only got worse after lunch, when we went into shops, where I took my hat off as I was carrying an ever growing number of bags of things that my friend got at some of the shops. In a world without hat racks, wearing hats sometimes requires at least three hands.

Interesting, as that one looks a tad big on him.

In any case, Clags, Im not sure about the shirt there, but that is one hella handsome tie. Very happy to see the shoes, but bend your knees a bit for the pants/shoes selfie so the pants dont look rumply. Pro tip!

Nice fit, but in that setting I would have opted for a white (or, given the suede (?) shoes, light blue) solid shirt.
Very nice! As no-nonsense as it gets.
I was just about to write that.
Is this your usual shirt collar? It works really well for you.

I appreciate the comments about the shirt. I've tried a solid one before (obviously). It worked as well, yet felt subpar. This jacket is so loud, that I have a hard time pairing it with subtle elements all around. It stands out too much. I liked the latest attempt the best, because the loud shirt draws some attention from the jacket. In fact, one thing I would do differently would be to use a patterned silk pocket square puff instead of a white linen fold.

A jacket like that is "loud." You can't play it down. A shirt like that makes one shake their head not knowing if the wearer realized what they are wearing. Solid is your best bet. The jacket is the attention grabber. No need to add a "loud" shirt.

Of course you're right. That's the most sensible thing to do. I'd say exactly the same thing too.
