Please forgive the drape of the pants, I was battling the wind.

When I bought this jacket I thought to myself that if there was any jacket that wanted a yellow tie this was it. I took the opportunity to try and see if I could pull the thing off. The shirt is standard, especially with a yellow tie. The square needed to shout "spring" but still contrast well with the jacket. This was a challenge at first, but when I found this blue one with the colors it has, it felt like the perfect match. I struggled forever trying to select proper pants. My first attempt of light gray did not contrast well with the jacket. My second attempt was a more mid gray (the same from my last fit a couple days ago). While they contrasted well, there was something off about it. I finally decided that a light tie demands light pants, the bottom block was just too dark compared to the top. I didn't have any pants lighter than my gray ones except chinos, so I started flipping through my options. These cream chinos felt like a good complement. Finally, my shoe choice was fairly straightforward. They needed to be light tan and casual. I've got monks, loafers, and these split toes that fit that bill. Ultimately I went with the split toes (their maiden voyage), but I can't help but think that the loafers might have been preferable given the cotton pants.

@luv2breformed I always find it interesting to read about the thought process that goes into your fits, though at times I feel you may be overthinking it a bit. That said, I think this is a very nice fit and good use of a yellow tie. FWIW, you should have chosen the loafers, indeed.

Yabbut in this case I think the extra jacket length is what nails SouthernStyle's suit. It makes him look taller overall, which by his own admission is what he's trying to achieve.
Ah, well then, the jacket should be cut even shorter, to give the illusion of longer legs and greater overall verticality. At least that's what any tailor worth his salt would advise. Kinda basic stuff. A good tailor will have other tricks to benefit the shorter fellow, concerning cut and cloth. Probably best to consult with one.

Your logic seems sound, but I don't think the results support it. This looks smashing:
But this falls apart:
I'm struggling to suggest something better, but I also don't remember seeing this jacket with the gray pants, either. Maybe I'd like the default suggestions better. Perhaps you could post pics of the various options from your closet?

^ I'm curious to know why you think this falls apart? Is it because of the shoes or don't you like the chinos here?
Personally I feel that with more casual shoes like loafers or so, it would work. Chocolate suede, probably.

The top is great. Very nice jacket/tie combo. I'm not crazy about the square. I think this falls apart below the waist. I don't think the pants and tie work well together. Or maybe dark brown shoes and belt would have been better with the pants. Something is off to me.

The pants are the problem for me. I generally don't care for chinos with worsted jackets, but I think this doesn't work even discounting my dislike of them. AAS makes a good point about the interaction of the tie and pants, and I wonder if that shade of tan just doesn't work with that jacket, whether made of cotton or wool.

Swap the kicks for dark brown suede, to capture a slightly more casual vibe to match to the causal pants and slightly more casual tie? Or loafers as you suggested in your thought process

Perhaps swap the chinos for biege linen or light brown, being slightly more formal than chinos but still somewhat chillaxed and "spring-y"?
(though that might just reflect my excessive love for linen)
