Lovely at-home date night. Pardon the dirty mirror.

The weather in NYC is cooling down to more seasonable levels, after a spate of September in November, and I am spending the afternoon with a friend from out of town, prior to attendance this evening at an event for the Sartorial Club, an international grouping of sartorially-minded individuals who meet at certain spots across the globe to commune with one another, and to be tempted by the offerings of the world's clothiers.
This evening's event is "creative black tie", so I shall be changing clothes between afternoon and evening, but I did want to look good for my lunch date. Today's attire is something of an experiment - I don't think that I've ever attempted a "three stripes outfit" with this suit before.

Suit - New & Lingwood
Shirt, tie, and braces - Paul Stuart
Cufflinks - DVVS, NYC
Pocket square - no name brand
Vintage watch chain
Shoes - Crockett & Jones, model Edgware

The weather in NYC remains cool and dry, and it's now evening (well, at least it's dark outside). I've changed clothes for the evening, for the meeting of the Sartorial Club at the penthouse showroom for Cad and the Dandy. The requested theme of the evening is "creative black tie", and after the third or fourth acquaintance asked, "You're wearing the peacock jacket, aren't you?" I guess I had to give in. With such a piece, everything else had to be fairly neutral (save for the braces and the socks, neither of which are seen very much). We shall see if this outfit is considered acceptable, or that I'm drummed out of the club on my maiden voyage.

Jacket - New & Lingwood
Shirt & trousers - Ede & Ravenscroft
Vintage bow tie & cummerbund
Stud set - The Persian Shop (custom made)
Shoes - Magnanni, via Saks Fifth Avenue

I don't think I'd have enough self confidence to make it past the mirror trying to sport that jacket...have to give it to you, you make it all work nicely. Does pairing everything just come as 2nd nature to you by now or do you still have to put a considerable amount of thought into it?

I like the challenge of figuring out what I think is pleasing to the eye with regard to my attire, and I do have to lay it out and see if the ideas in my head have some basis in reality - sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Went to the Pasadena Heritage Craftsman Weekend Expo today. The Expo is now about 1/20th of the size it once was.

Walked from my place to the Metro E Line Expo/Bundy station, changed to an A Line train at Historic Broadway station downtown, and got off the A Line train at Memorial Park station in Pasadena.

Walked from the Memorial Park station to the Tea Rose Garden, had a Cream Tea, and then walked to the Blinn House where the Expo was.

My legs are still stiff and sore from my four days as an election worker. It's bad enough to be out walking in Pasadena and get passed by a little old lady from Pasadena.

It's even worse, as happened today, to get passed by a little old lady from Pasadena in a walker.

Brooks Brothers Brookstweed jacket, Vineyard Vines tie and trousers, L L Bean OCBD shirt, Squarextraordinaire pocket square, Viyella sweater vest, and Allen-Edmonds saddle shoes.

Cream Tea and me at the Tea Rose Garden on Raymond Ave. in Pasadena CA.

Had a pot of Assam Tea and a Maple Pecan scone with cream and fruit rather than with cream and jam.

Got much more cream that way, which is always good with a large scone. Fruit is also always good.

Close up of the scone and the cream and fruit.

In the wake of Friday's meeting of the Sartorial Club, a subset of the guests from that gathering met at a local watering hole last evening, requiring that I dress up yet again this weekend. A series of quick shots of what was worn shown below.

Suit - New & Lingwood
Shirt - Brooks Brothers MTM
Tie - London York
Cufflinks - New & Lingwood
Braces - T M Lewin
Pocket square - no name brand
Shoes - Paul Stuart house brand

Visible Pick Stitching on Lapels and Pockets

  • It’s a mark of quality and craftsmanship

  • I like it when it’s subtle

  • I don’t like visible stitching

  • Doesn’t matter to me
