I’d venture to say that in the Venn diagram of yours and my personal style tastes there’s a fair amount of common ground, but as sure as night follows day something that has pissed me off since I joined this board is the inevitable compliments that come out whenever someone posts pics of a jacket with shoulder-skimming lapels.
Of course I take these comments personally firstly cos my own preference is for slim lapels (often predictably castigated on here!), but secondly because I was a young man in the seventies and I still have the heebie jeebies when I recall with dread the horror of Saturday Night Fever suits!😁

SF has broad enough tolerance for a variety of styles but I’m constantly bemused by why this trope continues to be perpetuated.
It was a statement more of amazement than admiration. But they don't bother me.

You just said it. It's a different taste.

I don't like skinny lapels and pants - on me. When others wear them, I shrug and think that's not for me.

It is of no concern to me when others wear styles which I don't find attractive, especially on a forum where I don't personally know most of the folks. I have no idea of their lived experience and their reasoning for the choices they make. Therefore, I don't comment on it.

Point being that despite the apparently broad taste of SF members posting pics down the years - all of which is welcome of course, variety is the spice of life - you can all but guarantee that wingspan lapels are gonna get compliments and slim lapels are gonna get criticized. It was ever thus and it’s underlying near universal groupthink despite the outward acceptance that rankles with me.

Do you remember the day in March 2021 (during the pandemic) when I kept introducing you to people as Sir Topham Hatt?

I like both your upper and lower outfit halves here, though to my eyes they don't quite work together – the contrast is too stark. Also, I'm not a fan of button-down shirts with jackets and ties.

I disagree, I think it's a well done example of the northern lights jacket. Would you think a navy jacket had too much contrast with a pair of beige pants (which is how that jacket reads from a distance)? The button down collar shirt with a sportscoat and odd trousers is pretty standard as well.

PPK have you tried a mid grey or charcoal trouser?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try that next. I'm determined to make this jacket work. :brick:
