Having a whale of a time standing in front of the Vineyard Vines store in Century City (West Los Angeles) wearing a Vineyard Vines tie, belt, and trousers.

Brooks Brothers blue blazer and PPBD shirt, Squarextraordinaaire pocket square, Vineyard Vines tie, belt, and trousers, and Allen-Edmonds shoes.

The top half seems too formal for the bottom half imo, the colour combo is nice on top but a windsor knot and spread collar don't necessarily lend themselves to sockless loafers and linen trousers. I think combined with the fact it looks like the fabrics are quite different, it just doesn't look quite right (but it could be the lighting!)

Are the trousers and jacket from two separate suits?
Thank you, I think you're right, this knot was not the best choice. The lighting makes the jacket looks much darker and more formal than it really is. It looks like I'm wearing a suit jacket but it is a navy odd jacket. The trousers are not part of a suit either. Thinking about it, a lighter linen jacket probably would have worked better.

I like both your upper and lower outfit halves here, though to my eyes they don't quite work together – the contrast is too stark. Also, I'm not a fan of button-down shirts with jackets and ties.
I agree. I'm struggling with that sports coat.

Now THOSE are some lapels!
I’d venture to say that in the Venn diagram of yours and my personal style tastes there’s a fair amount of common ground, but as sure as night follows day something that has pissed me off since I joined this board is the inevitable compliments that come out whenever someone posts pics of a jacket with shoulder-skimming lapels.
Of course I take these comments personally firstly cos my own preference is for slim lapels (often predictably castigated on here!), but secondly because I was a young man in the seventies and I still have the heebie jeebies when I recall with dread the horror of Saturday Night Fever suits!😁

SF has broad enough tolerance for a variety of styles but I’m constantly bemused by why this trope continues to be perpetuated.
