The shoes are black and white. Maximum contrast already. Do you think a lighter pant color would have worked better with the shoes here?
I was referring to the contrast with the clothes. I think different shoes would have worked better. These have no place in an outfit with the top half you were wearing.

Nice to see you here again. What about some pictures of properly draping, wide leg opening trousers?

I wasn't trying to be facetious, I really like Alan's trousers.

I have to agree. The shoes look out of place. By the way, AAS, you can consider to get rid of that jacket.

Got it. The shirt and pants are both linen. The jacket is madras. I'm not intentionally being obtuse, but what about the top half is out of place to you? The fabric, patterns, colors? When would a pair of shoes like this make sense in your opinion?

Declaring my bias up front: I don’t like these shoes. BUT they worked better with one of your black watch fits IIRC and maybe you also wore them with a seersucker fit? Here the warmer colors and lack of any other element that is bright white or black (or even a similarly dark value) leave them out of place.

You could do a similar shoe in a dark brown with cream top which I still would not like, but which would go better here.

The last few weeks before moving the linen trousers to the back of the closet. Lighting is pretty bad but the shoes are AE burgundy tassel loafers.

The top half seems too formal for the bottom half imo, the colour combo is nice on top but a windsor knot and spread collar don't necessarily lend themselves to sockless loafers and linen trousers. I think combined with the fact it looks like the fabrics are quite different, it just doesn't look quite right (but it could be the lighting!)

Are the trousers and jacket from two separate suits?
