Have a great day.

As I was doing my laundry last night (yes, I realize, WTMI), I noted that I'd not worn a proper dress shirt, other than for the purposes of being drawn or painted, in the last 16 days. The weather and my social calendar finally conspired to make it possible for me to dress up a bit this afternoon - the temperatures are relatively mild today, and I'm treating a friend to lunch in honor of his birthday.

Sports jacket - Paul Stuart/Phineas Cole
Shirt and trousers - Brooks Brothers
Tie - Paul Stuart
Pocket square - Harvie & Hudson
Shoes - J. Fitzpatrick

I'm not sure that I'm up to standard for this thread, but it doesn't say anywhere, as far as I know, that one has to be wearing a suit or a sport coat. Here is a casual weekend outfit in what I think of as a fairly bold, though I hope not disharmonious, combination of colors. I am taking advantage of the fact that the weather in my locale today, though sunny, permits the wearing of a sweater—of cotton, of course. The point that seems to me most questionable is my wearing a necktie with a linen shirt and cotton-twill trousers. What do you say: does it "work," or is it an unhappy combination of conflicting stylistic registers? (I really, really like this tie, by the way: a garza fina grenadine from Shibumi Firenze.)

You have to love that bow tie. The color and pattern seem very "Ivy League" to me. I like to wear them, but I'm afraid that they are a risky choice for someone of less than average height, as I am. My late father wore them frequently and well (and gave me my first lesson in tying one), but he was over six feet tall, so he didn't have to worry about looking like a miniature.

I can think of several reasons why one wouldn’t wear a bow tie but I’m puzzled that one’s height would be a factor. It’s a bold move in todays world so you’ve got to step out with confidence and own it but vertically challenged fellas aren’t excluded from doing so.
