Of course you can find some great stuff thrifting, but you can also spend an awful lot of time and money looking for it. When you take into account petrol costs, purchase price, alterations and time spent looking for & experimenting with differant thrifted bits and pieces. You could easily spend $400 over the course of a year doing all of this.... Sometimes it's better to just bite the bullet and go and buy a new suit.

New jacket. Unstructured triple patch from Raffaele Caruso Sartoria Parma.
As you can see I'm very happy about the purchase.

This! RTC, please save up the cash that you spend on thrifting sub par items until you can afford something better.

    Yes, you look ecstatic! [IMG]
    Great fit, as usual...

I just realized that I now have nine blue blazers... How many do you need?

I'm a cycling enthusiast and with cyclists there's this running gag about how many bikes one needs: n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned. Same goes for blue blazers?

A capricious choice of footwear for today, but otherwise fairly conventional (by my standards, at least, which are a bit looser than some).

    Suit - BBGF Regent
    Shirt - BB
    Tie - Canali
    PS - Robert Talbott
    Boots - Cheaney

That looks like a very nice lobster soufflé. Can you PM me the recipe?

That is excellent, as usual, upr_crust.
Sometimes, like today, I can't help but wonder what a slightly less traditional cut might look like? Slightly wider lapel with less bowing and maybe more open quarters. Similar to the Cantarellis at NMWA.

Hah really? I used to race in college! Such an expensive hobby with all the wear and tear. Still cheap compared to some things.

Yeah, it can get quite pricy. Even more so than menswear perhaps, though I think I have my priorities right! [IMG]

He may be saying that but people are hearing, "I have the feeling that I forgot something......"

Hah, indeed. Oh to be young(er) again. My only worries in those days was how I'd score beer, bike parts, and manage to race the next morning with a hang over. I actually did pretty well for a while too!
