Wool ties aren't getting put away just yet.
I've been moving away from 100% silk and more towards ties that have at least some wool component to them, even if it is relatively low. I find that, for me at least, they generally produce a better knot and tend to stay looking neat throughout the day without adjustment. Maybe it's just me, or maybe I'm not buying the right ties, but a significant percentage of my 100% silk ties begin slipping down from the collar and tend to look untidy after a few hours of decidedly low-impact activities. Interestingly enough, despite reports of its demise, my Brooks Bros. 100% silk ties tend to do very well compared to the ones from other makers.

I find it's really unpredictable which silk ties are going to form a good knot and which ones won't, but the wool or wool blend ties I have almost always knot up and dimple well. I especially like the silky feel and lighter weight of wool challis ties. The BB silk tie I posted today knots up so securely it's difficult to take it off at the end of the day!

The sun keeps shining, and the temperatures remain moderate, here in NYC, allowing a short extension to the season of fall/winter suits. Today's suit was next in rotation on the rack, and being as neutral as it is, allowed for a more interesting shirt and tie combo.

Suit & face mask - New & Lingwood
Shirt - Brooks Brothers MTM
Tie - Drake's
Cufflinks - Joseph A Bank
Braces - Lewin
Pocket square - Brooks Brothers
Shoes - Magnanni for Bergdorf Goodman

The weather in NYC continues to be sunny and moderately cool, allowing for the donning of suits without discomfort. Today's suit is summer weight, but three-piece, and I've not worn it in a long time. The same goes for today's accessories - today's tie I've had for decades, and haven't worn in years, today's pocket square I somehow never seem to use, and today's cufflinks I bought more for their novelty value than their usefulness. Today, they all get used.

Suit & pocket square - Ralph Lauren Purple Label
Shirt - Chester Barrie, via Austin Reed (alas, both now defunct)
Tie, braces & shoes - Paul Stuart house brand
Cufflinks - Metropolitan Museum of Art (adapted from a Faberge original)
Vintage watch chain
Face mask - New & Lingwood
