I was thinking of wearing something for the FC, and then I just wanted to wear something different instead. This is as 'casual Friday' as I usually get - unstructured Ring Jacket in a thick grey open-weave wool/cotton blend; BB Black Fleece blue/grey tattershall shirt, blue plaid wool bow tie and brown/multistripe cotton square (both by The Hillside). Worn with (unseen) tan Polo custom fit chinos, Chup socks and C&J snuff suede single monks.

Thank you, Elio. I heard that I look better in earth tones or lighter colors (lighter greys and medium blues) quite often - a byproduct of being pale of complexion and being incapable of tanning :(.

It's a fantastic suit, although I think it would scare a lot of people here to even try something as bold as that. I'm just not sure about the tie with it. I can see what you are thinking, but it seems like a case of 'close but not close enough' and I would have perhaps gone for a completely different colour rather than something in the same range as the suit.

Seeing the suit on the hanger, I was very dubious about acquiring it, but when I tried on the jacket, the fit was so superior, and the pattern bold enough such that I could wear the jacket with a pair of tan trousers as a sports jacket without much problem. (I was wearing tan linen trousers at the time of try-on.)

I really haven't had the opportunity to find a better match of tie to suit, which is an ongoing project. Today's tie I found at my local discounter at a very fair price, and as a solid, I can always use it, if not specifically with this suit. My lunch hour may be spent finding a better tie for this beast :satisfied:.

Cliche, I don't have a burgundy grenadine, but I do have a couple of burgundy repps, and I don't remember particularly liking the color combo. As I said above, I need to do some shopping for a tie for this suit, and I really need to have the suit with me in order to determine proper coordination.

This is always the problem with suits that have so much personality of their own. There's a tendency to use the suit as a kind of canvas for the brighter paint of a tie (hence the navies and greys), but you can't really do that a suit like this. If the suit is highly patterned (say a Glen Check) but fairly neutral in colour, then the obvious answer is a plain colour in a darker hue (and almost any will work depending on the presence of overchecks in the suit). But this one has a very simple but bold pattern and a colour that, while very much part of the classic male repertoire, is not as familiar to most men today. It's a tricky one. I'd suggest trying some blues, maybe various plains and neats in that colour (a reverse of the navy suit / brown tie convention). I'm not sure about burgundy as RtC suggested. Various olives and greens might also be worth trying. As you say, you will just have to go out tie shopping with the suit on until something just unquestionable 'works'. And it could be something that has equally as much presence but just balances with the suit...

I don't know what you guys are talking about. Señor Crust's tie looks great with that suit.
