Laziness is one reason this is my go to pose.
Keep in mind I'm also in Southern California. When I was in Rome, a tailor said to me "where are you from, you look like your from California".
It's also going to be 80 here today.
Shoes: Greats, (which apparently I will be taking a melamine sponge to the soles today )
Trousers: Jomers 5 pocket.

Today is perhaps the last sunny, cool day for NYC for the foreseeable future, and will be the last day this week (barring extraordinary circumstances) that I will be posting photos.

There are days when choosing an outfit is rather like playing pachinko - one drops the ball down the slot, and it takes an unexpected set of bounces, landing one in a place different than one's intentions. I had intended to wear a much different tie today - a very vivid red and gold Charvet - but found that I liked the subtlety of today's paisley (a tie I've owned for at least a couple of decades) more pleasing with this suit. For visual "punch", I opted for perhaps my blingiest pair of cufflinks - a loud grace note for a very low-key ensemble.

Suit - Paul Stuart/Phineas Cole
Shirt - Tyrwhitt
Tie - Paul Stuart
Cufflinks - DVVS, NYC (now defunct)
Pocket square - Robert Talbott
Shoes - Edward Green for Brooks Brothers

I'm tempted to grab a pair of black single monks norwegian split toes and had trouble picturing them with suits. This helps Señor Crust, thanks! They look nice!

Glad to be of service, Betel. However, the primary reason that I own this particular style of shoe is that it was the only thing left in my size at Brooks' warehouse sale, when they got rid of their stock of Edward Green. That being said, they do look nice :-D.

That is amazing. How do you manage to get a perfect fit, almost always? I believe you don't do bespoke, but your fits are some of the best in here. Great tailor? Lots of patience? Learn by shopping? All of the above?
Thanks for the kind words. All of the above. Most pants and jackets are second hand. I have a decent tailor. I think I’m a fairly easy fit besides my longish arms. 17.5 shoulder and a 20.5 chest and I’m good. I always ask for measurements when buying. Vintage high rise, cuffed trousers from Polo fit me well. Suspenders help a lot. I definitely have bought a lot of clothes over the years. Lots of failures. Lastly, I iron my clothes. It makes a big difference.

I sympathize with not buying clothing online right now unless you know it's going to fit. I sure as heck don't want to be trotting to the post office to return stuff right now.
Yeah, I've recently bought pants, and shoes online. Of course ties and squares, but I'm not buying shirts or jackets unless I can try them on.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
