I like this fit overall, good business looking fit, the colors are right--I'd feel comfortable getting a home loan or taking your legal advice, etc; the one thing that throws me off is the tie knot, which IMO leaves something to be desired. This is a matter of personal preference, of course, but the lines of a dark suit (navy or grey) call out for a knot with more definition and structure--I'd say a half Windsor (my general preference), BB ties hold one quite well generally. /two cents

This particular tie is a bit too long for a four-in-hand knot, which is my usual pick. I agree that the double FIH is at odds with the rest of the look, but I couldn't resist the temptation to add just a little bit of flair. In the past I have used a type of knot that my father taught me, but which I haven't been able to identify, for longer ties. It's not quite a half Windsor. I will try to post some pics in the future using this knot.

Thanks for the feedback!

So long as you're nitpicking about pocket square angle, try it in the same fold but with the edges showing (corners closest to the shoulder).
Pocket square angled the wrong way, 0/10.

Summer doesn’t really come to San Francisco till September, especially with the offshore winds. But at least flannel season can continue.

yay flannel... we had some cold days last week up the coast and dug out some heavy tweed for it. 40+ degrees warmer here now. The flannel comes back in october here and Im north of you. Great look, dang I miss my long coats already.

I enjoyed your posting, in part because I have a bow tie in exactly the same ancient madder as today's four in hand. I also have several ancient madders from BB of about the same vintage, and there is something slightly wonky about the way that they knot - perhaps the wrong (or not enough) lining, so the knot issue is not all of your own making.

I've always had some trouble with the knots on these ties as well, and it's nice to hear that it wasn't all in my head! I am willing to work with the wonky knots though, because they are great looking ties. Time to check to see whether they are on sale again...

I like the idea here but I'm not feeling the grey trousers, or at least that shade of grey. Tan cotton is where my brain defaults too. And the shoes make sense but also may be too matchy with the top block. Also too close in shade to the mulch.

Thanks man. I thought the grey trousers worked ok, but a tan cotton would be nice. I knowingly picked the shoes to match the jacket and tie. I put the mulch down specifically for this picture. Matchy matchiness be damned!
