I think you'll find them very versatile. It doesn't all have to be Cleverleys, Lobbs etc. In fact I've tried a number of those high end brands only to find many don't fit or I don't like the lasts.
Basically now I have settled on the C and J 341 - the Westfield and Sydney - and the Loake Capital, which has a nice soft square toe. I have a nostalgic attachment to Loakes. They have lasted many years in the past and the current bunch I have will probably see me out.
Bought five from Pediwear recently and with no VAT, customer loyalty of 31 pounds a shoe discount and free shipping to Australia worked out a total of about $1000.
    Plus they fit me beautifully.

Don't know, in fact. Seems like I always find a way to drop some mustard (or any other condiment that's hard to get rid of the stains), or else sit on a dirty chair, you name it I did it. And no, I don't shit my pants, if that's what you meant.

I think cream coloured trousers are fine, but whenever I wear my white jeans I manage to spill something on them within the first hour of putting them on.

I bought some white cords recently, and I almost wore them to dinner on Friday. I decided it would really suck to ruin them on the first night out, so I left them in the closet. :embar:

Well, just to rebalance the thread, I have just got hold of a pair of Vass suede chukkas at a bargain price. [IMG]

They do look quite promising. I have some Gravati chukkas that I LOVE.

I bought mine off of Amazon. If you look for Clark's there, you'll find many sizes, styles, etc. at very different prices. Pick a color you like and then visit occasionally, and it's very likely you'll find them sub $90 and often for less. Sizing, I find them true to size or slightly larger. But yes, there might be QC issues (they are made outside of England...surprise!).

There's a Clark's Desert Boot thread in SF that is quite active.

I wore them on a walking-heavy vacation this summer (Oakwood...a light snuff suede) and they were quite comfortable (with or without socks). I wear them on weekends to run errands. I just didn't worry about their getting beat up and they look much better that way.

Acute Style: you should try them out.

No, not the Drone's Club. The Drone's Club is a club in London that Bertie Wooster and his friends belong to.

The Oldest Member is a member of a golf club in an uncertain location somewhere in the UK or the USA.....

J.Crew's Mcallister was softer and more comfortable out of the box than any Clarks I tried on. Just my input on that thread of conversation...

Wedding attire for today. One of my best buds got married. Went full classic normal human regalia ( ie no morning wear lol)—navy suit, spiffed black cap toes, white double cuff shirt, Glen plaid silver tie.

Thanks, it's quite a fun shirt. It's Michael Bastian for Uniqlo. These off-white Luxire pants were only $89, which is very reasonable. I pretty much wear them whenever I feel like it, restaurants, nights out, etc. Taxis are the most dangerous when it comes to getting stains. I got a small stain on one of the cuffs from entering/exiting one, but I was able to remove it easily with some warm water.

Those Vass chukkas look awesome, FlyMo. Congratulations. :)

And just for the sake of it, welted suede chukka options, the latter two available in wide fittings, all around the $200 mark:

    Meermin

    John Spencer

    Loake

    Church's

Of for something a little scruffier, AE Shoe Bank have these for $99.

^ The Meermin are nice but generally I'm not keen on the light edging, makes them slightly less versatile IMO. ymmv
