@mimo I think the wardrobe of Sean Connery's James Bond arguably had more to do with movie director Terrance Young's influence than Ian Fleming. For example, Fleming didn't approve of Connery's selection as the first Bond for Dr No.

In any event, I do not wish to be a Fleming apologist. Especially, as your criticisms about him are all true according to published biographies and your points about commercial product placement are well made.

I suppose that for those of us who are still finding our sartorial way, role models -- like the various James Bond movie characters and Cary Grant -- act as starting or way points to assist us to make our way forward.
Or, perhaps we're just human apes -- monkey see money do! [IMG]

Similar here in Ontario... and I'm also wearing a green knit tie, albeit a slightly less earthy one.

Deets: bike helmet hair, aquascutum gun-club check jacket, CT shirt, Drakes green knitted silk tie, Cream and dark green Post-Imperial PS, lightweight taupe wool Mediterranea pants (that do contrast a little more in real life than in the brief rather washed-out and blurry glimpse you get in the second picture; green Mazarin socks and chestnut Stemar v-tips.

Friedrich - lets get some full pics of all that wonderful win you have there.

FlyingMonkey - I dont think that jacket looks right on you, too boxy, needs at least a little shape.

Hmm. Really? It might be just the angle - it's got a rather typcially English profile with a slightly nipped waist and firm shoulders. The shoulders certainly may be more boxy than some would like, I'll give you that, but then I don't share the totally unvarnished enthusiasm for unstructured coats that many do here - although I have a few.

    Here's a close-up robo-pose of the waist gorge / waist:

Better? Worse? Same? I think it's about as good as you're going to find for RTW in my size (36S/37S) and I've had no alterations done to it. What would you suggest?

My sister's at my grandparents house in India right now. She found this picture and I thought I'd share. This is my grandfather circa 1953.

looks ok in the waist, but the whole top, and the sleeves from shoulder to opening, look like you are drowning in that coat in the distance picture. to me anyways.
