Remember that time Noodles was having one of his freakouts and told everyone to spank him (or whip him? I can't remember which).

Thanks Doodals, much appreciated. I like, and have, Drakes, Cappelli and Henry Carter amongst others of course. Got another couple of Drakes coming tomorrow I hope, from their sale.

That one is a Cappelli. I know, I know you're not struck on him through your seemingly unfortunate tête-à-tête but all i've received from him are superb. This one is from the MTO run, there's another one here if you're interested http://www.styleforum.net/t/403427/recreating-a-david-evans-pattern-tie-to-be-made-by-cappelli

Sneaking under the radar [email protected] took one of his brown ties and really like it. He did have a couple left and may even plan to expand so worth a look.

I am so bummed that Drake's only do 8cm ties now. I looked at the sale and there are so many ties I would buy if only they were wider :(

Very true that. I bought on the strength of what I'd pair them with.

i think given the purple ground of the stripe, it jives well with the suit. neither are really particularly formal imo.

most definitely not a choice i would make if i wanted to look good. that jacket needs a tie with color. as matter of fact, i can think of about zero times i would want to wear a knit tie like that.

have you ever tried one out? do you have any pics?

I've only tried Drake's 8cm ties on once, in their Clifford St. store, but I have a few other ties that are closer to 8cm and I find all if them to be too narrow for me. I do have pics to illustrate this, but I am on my phone now and can't access my computer until tomorrow. Sorry!

Edit: seems like I could find some pics even on my phone. Perhaps not the best comparison, but should at least illustrate the problem.

    Compare:

    with:

First tie is 8cm, second is closer to 9.5cm. I strongly prefer the tie in the second pic.

Curious to see how SF is going to react to today's (actually yesterday's) fit. It's fairly out-there.

Jacket is a new Canali purchased at their recent boutique sale. Wool-cashmere blend. Gets a lot of comments IRL!

BTW it's mid-winter here in Sydney.

Yes, I've been accused of rigidity before (I'm German, after all, what do you expect).

No, I had erased that long ago, but thanks for bringing it up again.

Just get them widened if it really makes a difference for you. It's a very simple operation - I did that many times with tiecrafters in the US before I came to my senses and found inner peace when it comes to tie width

The jacket needs to be toned down by its accoutrements not amped up.

There is an urge for some, usually neophytes, to overuse their palette. This should be resisted.

i see what you mean, but imo the thinner tie is certainly in the range of nice for you and id not pass on a great tie of that width. ymmv. :)
hmmmm. i think its good not great. is it a cream/brown check? a full pic showing the contrast with the pants would be nice, and im not sold on the PS.

um, yeah, thats great, but that cream tie is ugly and would look terrible with clags' SC.

the tie he was wearing is toned down, its a simple dot tie, far less amped up than the SC. toned down does not equal lack of any color, pattern, or interest.

as to the quote, the only thing perhaps to take away from his combo would be the dots in the tie, but i could also argue that the dots play well with the cream check outer stripes and that the extra pattern adds to the fit.

basically, what i am saying is that i think you are wrong on all counts.

well, ill agree to your second sentence, except to say that clags is no neophyte. and the comment itself was kinda of a snide comment.
